Probably because it the Thursday before memorial day weekend.
I was worried about that I even thought about flying in a day earlier we are staying at BLT we are dvc members and just seeing about staying at a value resort for one night then going over to BLT the next day not sure if that's worth it any thoughts on this idea

It might be worth it. I fly SWA quite frequently. I don't expect prices to get much cheaper for that week because of the holiday.

Have you tried another airline? Find out which airline uses your airport as their "hub" and check with them. Or even better, try a multi airline site like Kayak.com. We've been flying my son back and forth to college lately and find a HUGE variance between different airlines, days of the week, and flight times. (I just scored a round trip from O'hare to Laguardia for $157.00. I can't even drive halfway there for that) If you're patient and willing to travel in off-hours you can get some great prices. Even juggling your flight days a day or two can save some big bucks. Good Luck.

You might want to consider taking some precautions with her ears since it is the first time she has been on a plane. Often the reason very young kids cry and scream is that their ears hurt from the pressure drop inside the plane. While it isn't a big deal for all kids it is for some. I strongly suggest you get some "Earplanes" they are special ear plugs that cause the pressure drop inside the ear to be happen at a much slower rate which minimizes the discomfort on the plane. They can be difficult to find, where we live only the CVS has them and often only the adult size, they have a special version for kids that is smaller. But without them you are risking having your kid become one of those crying screaming kids that no one on the plane wants to be around.

Also if you do decide to get them note that they are not made for multiple uses and that you will need to put them in prior to the plane taking off, I can't remember the exact amount of time so just check the instructions.

As for tickets, don't assume that Southwest is the cheapest option, they aren't always. You need to just keep looking at prices on a regular basis and if you see some tickets drop to the level you are happy with grab them.

Also consider looking at other airports near where you live, or flying into Tampa/St. Petersburg instead of Orlando as it is often cheaper to fly there than Orlando, sometimes by as much as $150 a ticket. Down side is that it would require a short drive to Orlando from there but we have done it and it is quick on I4. One last thing to consider, if you plan on going to Lego Land, it is closer to Tampa than Orlando so it is a nice way to break up the trip from one city to the other.

We ran into the same problem with airfare for this past May. Personally I book as soon as you see a price that seems reasonable to you. We waited to book ours until March in the hopes it would go down but it just kept going up. Not sure where you are flying out of but for us flying Air tran out of Philly was cheaper then SW. I agree with previous posters too, the fact you are going the weekend of Memorial day will definitely cause flights to be more expensive.

If you book Southwest and the price goes down, you can get a credit for the difference good for a year so I would book now in case the prices go up. It is cheaper to fly on Tuesdays and Wednesday.

We must have gotten really good deals for our trip in May then. We're flying Southwest out of Providence 5/25-6/1 for $240 RT. We're also checking daily to see if the prices drop. If they do, the good thing about SW is you can rebook for the lower price and they will credit your account the fare difference. Both flights are non-stops, too.

I'd just talk to the Ped about some motion sickness meds for the car. You may be able to give him/her some Dramamine. If they get car sick, ill bet they get air sick too (I do, mostly headaches, but it's miserable). So I'd talk to your Ped first before shelling out for plane tickets :)

Thanks for the advice about the ear plugs ill check into them also we are flying out of stl and our main thing is getting a direct flight to minamize the pressure on her ears I found if we leave late weds we can fly round trip all 4 of us for around $1200 and we can rent a room at a value resort for one night then transfer the next day to the BLT cause I'm worried about flying out at 6:00am which means we'd have to leave our house around 3:30am and our toddler is not a morning person, but flying out at 7:00pm might be a lot better option

Kids are more resilient than you think. Unless your child already has some type of medical condition that you are concerned about I would not plan your travel 100% around your child.

If you are looking at other airlines besides Southwest, don't forget to look at baggage fees. Often you can find cheaper tickets than SouthWest but when you look at the cost to check bags other airlines can become much more expensive.

Once you are in Southwest's site (I believe it's the second or third page) there is something called the "low fare calendar". Click on that and it will show you lowest fares for that month.

As for flying from STL to MCO, we did it about a month ago on a Sunday. Our itinerary had a brief stop in Nashville for about 30 minutes and then on to MCO. All told our flight time including the stop was about 3.25 hours.

Before you waste money on a value resort to just sleep after late night flight, I would suggest you consider booking a reasonable hotel close to the airport. We have done that in the past when we arrived very late and it was cheaper than a value... When we did it we had a hotel that picked us up from the airport and in the morning we took the hotels shuttle back to the airport where we then took advantage of the Disney transportation to the Disney hotel we were booked in. No reason to waste money on a value for only one night and then transfer, some of the hotels near the airport also provide free breakfasts and have much more comfortable beds than the value resorts.
