Flickering Lights ?

There are controllers that are designed specifically for this purpose and as already stated that is most likely what WDW uses. However - there are also individual bulbs that you and I and anyone else can purchase that will flicker.

No special wiring, no special electronics - just a special light bulb that produces the flicker effect.

I have used those lights before and they don't really produce the same effect. First off they do not produce much light at all. At best they simulate the look of a candle but really do not have enough light to provide much of an effect through a diffuser.

A couple of years ago I was trying to get that gas lamp flicker effect in a bunch of plastic jack-o-lanterns I put out for Halloween. My first idea was to use the flicker bulbs but they did not produce enough light to illuminate them and the light was more constant than the dim to bright effect I wanted.

Sometimes the correct answer may not be all that simple as there are more than one type of set up for a dimming/flicker effect. There are most definitely special light bulbs for the flicker effect that do not require any sort of special wiring or electronic controls. Simply search any commercial lighting store and you'll find them there.

Well, yes of course there are special flicker bulbs, I use them myself for Halloween. But they are VERY expensive ($4/per bulb) I can't imagine Disney doing something like that when they can some how wire the entire attraction or area and run it from a central location.

If you are a hobbiest you can build them with parts from Radio Shack. The actual mechanist to make ot flicker is a Flourescent light starter. Here is a link on how to build it. :wave:

Have you seen the price of wire recently? Those $4.00 bulbs look very cheap compared to today's copper prices!
