Flat Pannel vs Traditional

I am buying a computer a few weeks and I have a question about monitors. Do you guys suggest flat pannel monitors or traditional? I really want to get a flat pannel, but I've heard of people having problems with freezing and specks that aren't supposed to be on the screen. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Gosh, I would think that by now the flat panels should be working pretty good. If I had it to do again, I would go flat panel, but that's me. Just don't go el cheapo I guess.

Thanks for the help! I'm pretty computer retarded so I'm just going with the Dell website and hoping they don't swindle me.

My parents bought a Dell with a flat panel display a few months ago. They haven't had any problems with it and the graphics are beautiful. I highly recommend it.

When you say flat panel, are you talking about an LCD vs. a CRT monitor? If so, I would recommend considering a flat tube CRT monitor, 19". Prices on the flat tube 19" monitors have come down quite a bit. The down side is the VERY large footprint on your desk, but if you have the space...great picture! I've seen 19" flat tubes at Office Depot for under $300 with rebate. Of course, these are lower end monitors as far as maximum resolution and herz rating, just do your homework before you decide. You can probably get a fairly good 19" flat tube with good specs for $400, alot less than most 17" LCD's. It all depends on your needs (and wants:animwink: ).

What size was it?

I think we just got them a 17 inch, but I don't remember for sure. It may have been 19. I can tell you we've now purchased three computers of various types from Dell and are getting ready to purchase a fourth. We've never had any problems with them.

Really? Why is this?

Due to the lower refresh rate (the amount of times an LCD creates a new image on the screen) vs. the CRT, the CRT is winning. Also the color cordination on the CRT is better with richer colors.

But what about flat screen plasma monitors?

Go to your book store. Go to your computer department. Pick up a TechTV Book about buying a new computer. It's out there, but I can't remember what it's called.

From what I understand, the only drawback that the plasmas have that can be found in the LCD is the price and with the plasams, it is a much bigger drawback. :)

Well, I have a great 17" NEC LCD monitor, except my brother got into a ed mood at me for no reason and scratched a series of concentric circles into it. Still works very well. My 19" Dell Trinitron monitor is also very good. Its more of what size you wnat, and the size of your wallet :)
