Flamingos at Epcot?

DAK is better for them because they have a dedicated environment that was designed and built just for them. At Epcot they were accomodated in the area by the restaurant, but it wasn't designed to meet their needs.

They don't fly because they have been pinioned and can't fly. Below is how Wikipedia explains pinioning:

Pinioning is the act of surgically removing the pinion joint, the joint of a bird's wing farthest from the body, to prevent flight. The bones removed when pinioning a bird are akin to removing a person's hand just beyond the wrist (through the metacarpals). Like declawing, the morality of modifying an animal to suit human needs is debated.

There is NO human need that requires the presence of any bird.

Thanks for the information though.

We heard someone asking that once - maybe it was you!

Perhaps it was somebody that I had confused.

They were all over Caribbean Beach as well. Inside the Custom House and on Parrot Cay Island. They have since been removed, my guess would be in the late 90s.

Now Parrot Cay is called Caribbean Cay....I believe....haven't stayed at Caribbean since 2004, but you if you know me you know I've stayed there many times and know a lot about the place, haha

Oh I used to *love* Parrot Cay! We stayed at the resort for the first time in 1996 and I spent the majority of my time on that island (along with Discovery Island...). Now the place is just a quiet shortcut across the resort. You can still find signage that refers to it as its original Parrot Cay name.

I think "remember the flamingoes that used to be there"

And then "remember the guest restaurant that used to be there as well and not just for special events" :(

Careful now. Give them the idea to open the restaurant and that you miss the flamingoes and next thing you know you got a fast serve restaurant with flamingoe burgers! Kills two birds with one stone... uh... bun ...I guess.
