Fixing Epcot: Any Ideas?

First post here at the site and I know this issue has been discussed before but I always enjoy reading the ideas. To be honest after Mission Space is completed I don't think another thrill ride is necessary, although I have always thought that a Matterhorn clone back in the countries would be well received and relatively inexpensive to construct.

I like Epcot as much as the next guy but when I'm back in the countries I'm not so much looking to be wowed as looking for something to do. Mexico's boat ride is great and simple and that pavilion still is the non-U.S. standard IMO.

Here are some random thoughts:

1. Lose the Mickey Wand over Spaceship Earth. I don't know anyone who likes that thing.

2. Body Wars: How about a new program/mission. Identical argument to the Star Wars update, but on the relative cost scale, I can't believe that this couldn't be done cheaply but I'm not a programmer.

3. Some country between U.S. and Canada needs some sort of attraction. I liked someone's idea of doing a Mary Poppins themed ride in the Peter Pan format in the U.K. Maybe a simple German boat ride.

4. Emphasis on Dark Rides: I love Test Track but I sure miss World of Motion. I'm sure I'll love Mission Space but I miss Horizons as well. Thank goodness Imagination is back.

5. Spaceship Earth - don't change a thing. I still love this ride and believe that telling the story of the history of communication is an important part of Epcot.

Well, I do. :)

One thing to always keep in mind about the WS countries is that Imagineering will only add on if the sponsoring country will pay for it. There has been talk that Canada wants a new version of the CircleVision movie to replace O Canada. What about Morocco? I know they dont actually pay for their country, I think its government sponsored or something.

I agree that dark rides should be used in the pavillions again. I think a ride that "shrinks" you and brings you through cells/molecules/atoms would be cool for Wonders of Life, or mabey UoE.

If they ever get a different sponsor for UoE (besides Exxon), it woudl be nice if they could change the "fossil fuel" theme of the show, so they could focus on many various sources of energy. I just think that with Dinosaur at AK, Epcot doesn't need the dinosaur show... If they could fit, mabey some of the dinosaurs from UoE coudl go in Dinosaur and fill up some empty space, if thats at all possible.

I'd also love to see some rides added to WS....

I really like your idea of adding a mary poppins themed ride in UK...

How about a boat ride in Italy based on riding in a gondola-like boat?

The movies in each country are good, but kinda overkill given that I can see the same type of thing on the Travel Channel at home nowadays....

I so totally agree! I'm "old" to the board and I don't read every thing under every single topic!

Who has that much time? :animwink: :)

I´m not so fond on the wand either, but I guess after a while I tend to get used to it. I miss the entrance of the park full of flowers, and I would make Leave a Legacy a lot smaller.

As for the rides in the countries, they could be there, if the countries sponsor them. Having pavillions in WSC already cost them a big amount of money. Just curious, what do you mean by saying that the Mexican Pavillion is "still non-U.S. standard"?

I love WSC as it is and wouldn´t change it, maybe do some updates and add some more "original" merchandise to some countries, but that´s about it for me. :animwink:

Welcome to the boards Snapper Bean.

When the wand above SSE said "2000" it was cool. I wish they could've just changed the year to say "2001", "2002" etc., but I don't really need to be told I'm at "Epcot", I already know where I'm at. I have'nt killed THAT many brain cells yet. :animwink:

As for fixing Epcot, I've said it before and I'll say it again...Once Mission:Space opens, Disney should build a Weather Pavilion between The Land and The Living Seas to tie them all together, and bring some of the traffic in Epcot to FW West. After M:S opens, the traffic in FW East is going to be crazy. Maybe put Stormriders in the Weather Pavilion along with a Dark Ride and rehab The Living Seas so people would have a reason to go there. World Showcase does need more attractions. What those attractions should be, I don't know. I like the Mary Poppins idea for the U.K. pavilion, or an Alice in Wonderland Dark Ride or even an Alice Hedge Maze.

Cheers

I like the wand over Spaceship Earth.
I would also like to see each of the lands ading a ride of some description (OK - Norway has one already) just to give the World Showcase a bit more appeal.

With the exception of "The Ultimate Home Theater" and "The Home of the Future" I've never felt that Innoventions lived up to its potential. I love gadgets, cars, boats, motorcycles etc. I have been to the Big CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas and seen fantastic displays by Panasonic, Toshiba, RCA etc. with all the latest and greatest gadgets. I have been to car shows and motorcycle shows that have great concept cars and the latest models.

If Epcot could convince Panasonic, Ford, Harley Davidson etc. to use Innoventions as a showcase for their products, I think it would be great for us and help them with their marketing.

Good ideas all and I wasn't the slightest bit put off about Grizzly Hall's reply, I went and checked out his response on the other board. I tend to stick to this board. My comment regarding the Mexico pavilion being the non-U.S. Standard is that I believe that "American Adventure" is the most elaborate presentation of a country in World Showcase. Mexico to me is the next best pavilion in World Showcase with Norway a close second. I just prefer for there to be something to "do" at a pavilion.

I haven't been in Imagination in a while. Do they still have the upstairs stuff with the lights and the music and the hands-on stuff. I agree that I miss the Communicore having something interesting as well.

Taking a trip in 2 weeks and this year we're going to focus on stuff that we haven't done in a while.
