Five Days Out from Disney and Tore My Calf Muscle

We leave for our dream Disney trip this Saturday. Today I was stepping up on a bench and heard a loud pop and my calf had extreme pain. I cannot put any pressure on my leg and managed to get through the day by limping and only getting up from my desk when necessary. By googling my symptoms it seems that I have a torn calf muscle - either a grade 2 or 3 but I would say it sounds like grade 3. The pop was loud.

Has anyone ever experienced a torn calf? Is there any way to still "do Disney" and not be able to walk?! I am so very sad and disappointed. Praying I wake up tomorrow and can at least stand up and put a little weight on my leg.

I really cannot reschedule our trip. My daughter leaves for college the week after we return.

First I would take a trip to the doctor ASAP. Look into renting a scooter or wheelchair. You may need to do offsite rental if you will need to stay off your leg outside the parks as well. Depending on how your leg is doing you will be limited on which attractions you can do. If you can transfer get up from the chair/scooter and enter a ride vehicle you will have more ride choices.

I would head to the doctor and get what ever I could to endure the pain and plan on using a a ECV while in the parks....you deserve to use one...don't worry what others may think.

I had a similar experience the night before my daughter's wedding, but it turned about to be a tear of my plantar fascia. You're probably going to need a wheelchair or scooter to get around at Disney, but you'll still have a great time. It is what it is, and it certainly could have been worse, so just enjoy your time together!

I'm so sorry that happen to you! What did they do for your plantar fascia? Was it a long recovery time? I cannot imagine being in a scooter at Disney but as of tonight I can't imagine walking anywhere! What a disappointment!

The thought of using a scooter at Disney is so hard for me! I would really be embarrassed! I am really praying for a miracle. I do know that I won't be walking anywhere the way it feels right now.

Not that this is a place to go for medical advice, but you really should consider visiting an orthopaedic doctor before making any decisions. What you are describing doesn't typically improve over night and you could do permanent damage without an appropriate solution.

Thanks. I am going to try and get an appointment somewhere before we leave. Not sure if I can get in with a specialist that fast but I am beginning to realize that I am probably going to need to see a doctor. If only I could wake up and start the day over.

I think we have all been there before. Sorry it happened to you so close to vacation!

Depending on where you live, lots of places have emergency drop in clinics for this sort of injury. It's called Urgent Care around here.

Why be embarrassed? You won't know 99% of the people who "judge" you, and you almost definitely will never see them again. If you need one to get around, then you need it. No matter what anyone else thinks.

Obviously visit a doctor first, but if you want to avoid stares, maybe wrap it so people can at least visibly see something and will be less likely to judge you? (I'm not a doctor, so I don't know if wrapping it is a good idea medically, but just throwing that out there as an idea)

Sometimes your personal doctor can get his patient an appointment with a specialist before the patient can. Some specialists will not even take a patient without a referral.

If nothing else go to a doc in a box for a referral.

I was in a boot for 5 months, and had 6 weeks of PT. I actually did a weekend at WDW in a boot - mostly in a wheelchair. It's not the end of the world, but I know how disappointed you are. You can read my trip report here (http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/theres-a-great-big-bootifull-trip-report.803902/) if it helps to cheer you up. As others have said though, don't try to rush the healing - you'll pay for it dearly later.
