First Visit to MK: Disneylander Documentation

I’ve heard people talk about the abrupt transitions in Disneyland. They’re abrupt here, too. Mansion in Liberty Square is on the left and Fantasyland is on the right.

Well up until 2010/2011 this path wasn't here and instead there was a berm of mature trees hiding the Skyway Chalet.

The only way to get from here to Fantasyland was the walkway under the second story of Columbia Harbor House.

The Rapunzel area was a part of a larger redo of Fantasyland West to add more pedestrian space and replace the former Prince and Princess restrooms that were taken over by the expansion of Peter Pan's queue.

I think the final execution is lacking, but at least you know the backstory of why it looks like that today.

That is a newer pathway, and the Tangled toilets and accompanying walkway, while needed operationally, have definitely mucked up the original intent a bit and increased the clutter.

Until about 5-10 years ago the only connection between Fantasyland and Liberty Square was through that narrow covered archway next to the Haunted Mansion gift shop.

That's some inartful LL signage on the HM. I get it, but still feels like they could have found a better fix.

Now try and wrap your head around how MK's Fantasyland used to have a lagoon and Dumbo was next to the Carousel.

I imagine this looks and sounds so strange to first timers who now walk on pathways that used to be water 10+ feet deep, lol

Mansion queue… The queue is beautiful, but the scary details and its interactivity take away from it. I don’t necessarily like how they make it obvious that it’s a haunted house. At the same time, the interactivity makes it less scary and goofy. I saw bubbles coming from somewhere in the queue. Very strange.

Thoughts on MK’s Mansion coming soon.

It used to be a quiet hillside with only the gravestones to look at and the howling dog to listen too...

I'm sorry, I don't mean to interject or talk over every point you make with "well it didn't USED to be like this..."

I do hope you and your friend are having a good time. :)

So we’re debating the theming of the rapunzel bathrooms?

Ok…die on that hill 🤪
Oh god, the bathrooms. The bathrooms are so dirty. Trash and dirty tissue all over the floors and soiled toilets. I tried to use one on Tomorrowland and literally every stall was completely filthy, so I held it. Went to the Rapunzel bathrooms and They were nasty, too. I did find one clean stall, though. Thank God.

Yeah…they laid everyone off in Florida in 2020 and there was really no reason for people to come back…good help is hard to find

Just ordered food and was not asked if I was an AP. Interesting.
Most places don’t offer AP discounts in Florida.
Florida’s drinking water tastes terrible. Disneylanders, ask for bottled water and soda here.
This is specific to Magic Kingdom and the newer places in MK (like Gaston’s Tavern) have water that tastes ok.

The queue is definitely a weird thing. I don't think it's as bad as many people say it is, but there are also some questionable decisions that were made in its planning.

I love the scarier exterior. It's not as obvious approaching it from Fantasyland but looking at the facade along the river, especially around dead center Frontierland, it just looms over the rest of the area and it's wonderful. There was a quote in the Haunted Mansion book by Jason Surrell that they intentionally made the exterior more intimidating after people thought DL's looked fine on the outside and so brought in children who freaked out inside. I think it also better fits the ride as it was actually built.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the attraction!
Weird side note… People don’t put as much effort into their outfits/appearances here.
Definitely not, and a definitely a huge increase in giant families with matching t-shirts. I'd like to give people the benefit of the doubt and say that it's because the humidity and rain can be so brutal, but I'm not entirely sure that's all it is.

It's not too late to skip Pirates!

I knew what to expect for Pirates, but I was still underwhelmed. My friend was very disappointed. Pirates is her favorite, too.
MK Pirates is in the weird position where I feel like it is both not as bad as everyone says, and yet exactly as bad as everyone says at the same time.

There are some things they improved (the pacing and layout of the town scenes is a bit better-at DL they can feel a little bit like they're on top of each other by comparison). I like what they were going for with the queue (though, again, modern WDW has inartfully replaced what was originally a much more cohesive queue with whatever they have there now). I like the feel of the lowered cave ceilings, which carried over to other parks like Tokyo. But it's just so hard to ignore what's missing.
However, small world’s facade is…wow. Underwhelming.

It's not great, but it might be an improvement over what was originally there.

small world was very disappointing. There was no sound coming from the dolls and some of them weren’t moving at all. We could barely make out the lyrics to the song and our boat was dirty. We both agreed that we prefer the DL CM uniforms. The ones here look like joker/harlequin uniforms.

Yeah, Walt Disney World's recent track record on attractions malfunctioning or not working properly has been sadly becoming more common in recent years.
