First trip with a car

My wife and I booked a rental car for our June trip. This will be the first time we have a rental car and will drive ourselves around property. Previously we had relied on Disney transportation to get around.

I was wondering what advice/pointers/help everyone out there might have? How much different will our trip be with a car?

Thanks in advance!

I was expecting to get a placard at the Contemporary when we went for our dinner in September, but we didn't get one. I pulled up to the guard shack and showed him my KttK and told him we had a reservation at whatever time it was and he just waved us in. I can see why they would give you a 3 hour placard, since it took us about 2 hours total.

Glad to hear that I made a good decision.

Another question - If you go to a resort to eat a meal, do they make you leave the parking lot to go to a park? Or could you walk and leave your car at the resort? Say I eat at Yacht Club and want to go to Epcot afterwards. Would I be allowed to park at Yacht Club and then walk to the park?

After renting a car for the first time a few years ago, we could never go back without one. The convenience factor is huge. Signage is easy to follow (although we did seem to always miss the turn off from Pop to MK last time but that was easily corrected). One night on our last trip we parked at Wilderness Lodge a few hours before our dinner reservation, then we took the ferry to MK for a few hours and returned by ferry for dinner. No problem. Unless you're there during peak season when parking is at a premium, I doubt they would give you a problem. Don't forget to keep the sign they give you in your window to prove you're a resort guest.
