first timer questions on restorts

First timer planning a trip for Feb. 14 - 19. I see that Disney is offering a deal where kids go free if you purchase dream maker packages, some questions:

1) Disney webiste prices dreammaker packages with airfare, can you buy the package with just resort and tickets, no air? I have lots of FF miles to use.

2) Is it generally cheaper to buy resort and park tix separately, I can get discounted park tix at work, AAA, etc.

3) If you buy the disney resort separately, do you still get the perks like extra hours at parks, etc.

4) Any deals on the disney resorts right now?

5) I hear Port Orleans is under construction, is that correct? When will it be done.

Thanks, thanks, thanks

Hello, jwith2boys; let's see what we can do here.

1. Please call Disney at 1-407-939-7429 and ask to discuss the Dreammaker Package in detail -- this offer has been printed in most major market newspapers and should be in today's travel and leisure sections.

2. Ultimate Park Hopper passes, available for sale with Disney Resort packages, may be a less expensive choice depending upon your length of stay compared to tickets purchased separately. Please note Disney offers discounts for ticket media purchased prior to your arrival at WDW. AAA members also receive a nice discount on park tickets.

3. The Extra Magic Hour perk (aka. early entry) is available to all guests of a Disney Resort, regardless of how you make your reservation.

4. Please refer to the Mousesavers website for detailed information on current resort discounts. This is a great resource.

5. Port Orleans is in a two-year rehab; the French Quarter section is currently closed but Riverside is open.

Enjoy!

Hi and Welcome to WDWMagic!

I will answer your questions and if you have any others, feel free to PM or e-mail me with them.

1.Yes, you can purchase the Dreammaker without airfare.
2.With the new kids stay and play for free pkg. No, unless you get a good AP rate and get the discounted tickets.
3.As long as you are staying on property, no matter how you do it, you are entitled to the early entry mornings, on-site transportation, etc.
4.The only deals they have are the teachers discounts at the S&D. AAA (15%) and the new Dreammaker kids stay and play for free. The Disney Club ends at the end of Dec. and pretty much everysingle discounted room under that is sold. AP rate rooms until the end of the year are few are far in between also.
5. Yes it is under construction and will be for quite a while. There is no end date that I have heard of. It's an ongoing project. They are working on the French Quarter right now and will soon be moving onto the Riverside part.

You can probably get the package without the airfare but it will be priced differently. Check www.disneyworld.com for lots of the answers to most of these questions.

2) Is it generally cheaper to buy resort and park tix separately, I can get discounted park tix at work, AAA, etc.

It depends on what you expect to do. Also, on the age of your kids. If you want to Park hop, you need to get at least Park Hopper tickets. If you want to go to the water parks, you might want to get Park Hopper Plus. It also depends on how much of a discount you can get through AAA or at work, etc. Disney does not usually discount their tickets very much, so be careful of really cheap deals. Sometimes they only include tickets to the water parks, not to the Theme Parks.

3) If you buy the disney resort separately, do you still get the perks like extra hours at parks, etc.

Early Magic Hours apply to people staying at the Disney Resorts, so yes, you do still get them.

4) Any deals on the disney resorts right now?

Again, check www.disneyworld.com for best deals.

5) I hear Port Orleans is under construction, is that correct? When will it be done.

Port Orleans-French Quarter is under construction, but Port Orleans-Riverside is still open for occupancy.

Is the AAA discount available for all resorts and at all times? I'm going in May and will be staying at the Poly. I'm pretty sure I asked about AAA when I made the reservation and was told 'no'.

Yes, AAA discounts run from Jan. until Dec. 19th of every year. They are ongoing. If they told you no, it was probably because there wasn't any availability for that time period. They only have so many rooms that they allow for each "special". Also with AAA, it's a room only discount.

Thanks. Do they go by the number of rooms or specific rooms? That is, , do I reduce the chance of getting a discounted room if I request a particular room or location? E.g, lagoon view concierge.

They go by a number of rooms or blocks of rooms for each discount (special). Just ask to see if there are any discounted rooms left and then see if they have the one you specified. Just remember, suites are not discounted if you would like one of those.

Hey J!! Welcome to the boards!!! I would safely say most of your questions have been answered. Please keep in mind that the kids staying free only applies to children between the ages of 3 through 9 and each child must be accompanied by a paying adult. So for example if you wanted to take both kids and one is over 9 you dont get as good of a deal as it sounds! Another problem would be if you are the only adult going, and you are brining two children, once again not a great discount. I would tell you to have it priced out by a good travel agent in several different ways. Quite frankly I would recommend our own Kingdom Konsultant, Pam as she is aware of all of the different combinations that are available. Not all travel agents are, and some dont know anything more about Disney than your average joe on the street. The people on these boards are VERY experienced as they usually go a few times a year!! This year alone I have 4 trips planned, 2 completed and 2 up and coming. Since 97 I have been to Disney 15 times, different resorts, different restaurants etc. Any questions, please ask!! We would love to help!!! Belle
