im trying to talk her into costumes. Ive got a great DIY idea that i might try for myself, but ive got some time to talk her into something.

Our day currently is planned to hit AK extra magic hours in the morning first, do what things we want there, grab a nap, and then head over to MK around 1 or 2.
Keeping it cool and simple is OK: my friend went as a black cat one year. She wore black, painted her nose, drew whiskers, and wore a cat ear headband. My husband's first pirate costume was a pair of old jeans with long fringes at calf length, a white tshirt with holes and little bit of 'blood' around them, and black around his eyes. Looked better than it sounds, but was easy.

Be in Liberty Square when the Headless Horseman rides through. It's really atmospheric and cool to be in that location during the start of the parade. Also, I'm not sure if they're doing this this year or not, but if you want to do a really fun event go do "Return To Sleepy Hollow" at the stables at Ft. Wilderness. You watch the classic Sleepy Hollow in there with literally the horses from Disneyworld in their stables all around you and then at the end of the movie the screen lifts up and you get a Meet and Greet with the Headless Horseman. It's super fun and you also get free popcorn and drinks with your ticket. It's a totally separate thing from the party itself but it's definitely worth doing and will add a little more element of spookiness to you trip. Oh and also make SURE you do Space Mtn in the total darkness. It's GREEEEEAT!!!! EASILY the best way to ride Space Mtn!

Our plan of attack:

1. Don't go to any park earlier that day so we can rest up for the party.
2. Make FP+ for the 3 rides WE must do at MK between 3:00/4:00 PM and when MK closes.
3. We watch the 2nd showing of the parade and do rides during the 1st showing. Party starts to clear out after the fireworks.
4. Bring our own trick or treat bags. The ones CMs give you are tiny. You get a BIG handful of good candy at each trick or treat location.
5. Best place to watch fireworks is Main Street near the rail road station, not closer to the Castle or the hub.
6. Really think about your costume choice. It will be blazingly hot in September. I usually wear a Mickey Halloween shirt, shorts and comfortable shoes. And bring a poncho. We got soaked and the parade was delayed due to a thunderstorm rolling through one year.
7. Visit the trick or treat locations again just before the party closes. CMs will be getting rid of as much of the candy in their barrels as they can.
8. If you're APs, buy some of the AP only merchandise.
9. If you're staying off property, make an ADR at a MK resort for late lunch/early dinner. I think you can figure out why.... 😉
10. Most important, HAVE FUN, 'CAUSE IT'S HALLOWEEN!!!!!

Ditto to the stage show and parade. The later times might be less crowded. I hit the rides and the candy early then watch the late show and parade.

Same with me. Best time to ride the popular rides is during the 1st parade. Just make sure to plan which land to be in as you will be blocked crossing Main Street and Frontierland during the parade.

Thanks everyone! I'm considering doing a diy look since I'm a "IT " guy by day. Thinking a place work shirt, pocket protector tan pants, and a name tag that says Star Command. 5 points of you get the reference

Last year, we did the second parade. We watched it from Frontierland. That was the best location. It wasn’t crowded at all. Everyone was running to Main Street to see it.
I love the alternative locations! We used to do that with the main Street electrical parade

I second this plan of attack. You can get in on some rides with even less wait during the first parade show. :)
And go get your candy from everywhere. Don't forget to hit the Laugh Factory Floor for more candy. WE missed that last time. :(

In the Parks
Yes
Boo to You Parade
Hocus Pocus Show
New Fireworks Show
Space Mountain in Pitch Black!

For the shows, catch all of the 2nd viewings. They will be less crowded than the first.

im hoping where its an early party in September that this might be the case.

The only reason it might be super crowded is because Disney is selling more tickets for the parties. Being September should help out. The closer you get to Halloween, the more crowded it will be.

I agree with the idea of watching the second, less crowded parade and the last castle stage show of the night, however, be sure to look carefully at the weather. It rains a lot in Sept/Oct and often, some of the showings of the castle show and parades get cancelled. If there is any chance the later ones will be cancelled, watch the early ones.

Good call! I remember being there late August , and it flooding us in Hollywood studios one year.

You can’t miss Hocus Pocus. The witches are so spot-on, it’s insane. And Boo To You is a lot of fun.
Just walking around the park and taking in all the dramatic lighting and decor is worth it in itself.
