Hi, I am going to DL this June and even though it will not be my first visit there it will be my first time staying on property. I love DL but maybe if you give us more info about your trip it will be easier to give suggestions.

When are you going?
For how long?
Are you staying on property?
Are you going with a large group, or small?

I have not yet been to disneyland either and my first time will be in june, so we are taking 3 days to explore the parks then we are off to see the rest of california, however we sort of wing things once we get there so we may end up staying longer at the DL.

First off, check in with some of the other forums here. We have a number of California friends that use a couple of forums for discussing DL:

Also check out the DL webpage to give you a general idea of map layout and how it differs from MK. It always feels a little twilight zone to me as things are mostly the same, then again they're different.

I would say to plan on three days if you can, get a park hopper ticket. I think two full days in DL, one in DCA...and you can always walk back and forth.

Enjoy yourself, but don't spend too much time choosing what is better here or there...just take it for what it is. Be sure and do Indy, Pirates, HM, Mr. Toad and IASW. TOT, Cali Screamin' and Monsters Inc and Grizzly River Run.

Have a great time.

Wow, only 2 days! Good that you're planning well in advance so you dont miss out on anything. I was there for 5 days back in August and still wished I had more time!

Spend nearly all of your time in Disneyland, do as much as you possibly can, and maybe about 4 to 6 hours at California Adventure and only do the main attractions at that park (Tw. Zone, Ca Screamin, Soarin', Monsters, Muppets, Animation Bldg, Aladdin, plus something else that interests you i fyou have time).

I'd recommend Fantasmic and the 50th Fireworks show as absolute dont miss things to add to your list. If you can swing the extra money and are lucky to get a reservation, the Fantasmic Balcony package is awesome. For $56.00 per person you get access to a private viewing terrace that seats either 16 or 20 people, a really good dessert buffet for 30 min prior to the show, soft drinks, and servers. You have a perfect center stage position about 30 feet above the crowds, maybe 50 feet or so back from the water's edge. The view doesn't get any better! There is a number to call specifically for the reservation and you have to do it 30 days in advance. Let me know if you need details. The fireworks show is incredible (almost worth the price of admission by itself) and most people think the best view is from the hub, between the castle and the Walt & Mickey statue, but for that area, you'll need to get there to claim a spot up to 90 min to 2 hours before showtime. It was worth the wait for me. Other than that, dont miss the main attractions (space mtn, Indiana Jones, Small World, Jungle Cruise, etc) and the afternoon parade.

Too many suggestions to list here! Just ask if you want more info

Have you been to WDW or any other Disney parks? That will help determine a frame of reference and may help with making some suggestions on what to see versus what to skip. I agree with a previous poster that you should spend the majority of your time at DL. But I disagree with the suggestion that you should spend 4 to 6 hours at DCA. If you've never been to DL itself, then you really will want to maximize your time there because it's a vastly superior park. DCA is really not much more than a glorified Six Flags with some re-hashed, lower quality WDW attractions thrown in. For example, if you've ridden ToT at WDW, then don't even waste your time with the DL version. It is a dramatically scaled back version.

If your family wants a bit of "down time" Alladin at DCA was absolutely wonderful. Amazing production! I agree with just hitting the major attractions at DCA, Soarin and Grizzly River Run are my favorites. The other nice thing about DCA is the Electrical Parade at night... for me that's just classic Disney.

Everything is fantastic at Disneyland itself. As for what you want to concentrate on... what are you most interested? Thrill rides? Shows? All of it? ;)

Btw, to the best of my knowledge all tickets for Disneyland are automatically park hopper... but you might want to double check that.
