Hi to all,
Typically I book our 2 weeks vacation with Disney and drive. But next time my DH will only have a week so we are thinking of flying. :sohappy:

I starting a budget and need to know after I make my reservations online and pay for the package should I anticipate being told at the airport there are extra fees to be paid at checkin (Syracuse NY).

Depends. You will want to read the fine print. If you are booking air with your package there should be some type of info when you book. Most of the time the extra fees are for checked bags and over weight/size bag fees. Taxes and other charges associated with the tickets should be included already.

If you are booking air separate then you can check directly with the airline.

I'm betting you'll have a baggage charge for each check in bag for each leg of the trip. I fly Air Tran and right now, it's 20 bucks each way for one bag under 50 pounds.

Try to book a 'non-stop' flight over a 'direct' flight. Those direct flights can add several lost hours to your travel time, which cuts into your vacation time.
Every time an aircraft lands there is a minimum 40 minutes on the ground what with all the taxi time let alone gate time.
I usually book the first flight out of Logan Airport in Boston and am in the MK by noon. Magical Express takes care of my luggage and the first time I see it is in my room. If you carry your luggage with you leave it with the bell-service if your room(s) is not ready.
Good luck and do your research with the airline you select. Sometimes they charge more for luggage if you have not pre-paid on line or when you book the flight. That can be a real shock getting to check-in and finding that you need to pay for a piece of luggage.:xmas::xmas::xmas:

Jet Blue or Southwest will equivocate to no baggage fees! Most major airlines it is 25 for each person's first bag; unless you're flying the over fee charging airline that is AirTran

Southwest you get two checked bags for free, Jetblue you get one.

AirTran is in the process of merging/being-bought-by Southwest, so one would hope that at some point their bag fees will go away.

You also have to watch out for one or two airlines (Spirit, maybe?) that charge for *carry-on* bags... Or is that AirTran?

Lastly, if an airline happens to increase their bag fees, all previously-purchased tickets before the change are grandfathered into the old rates that were in effect when you booked.

EDIT: Oh, and if you want to compare airfares and include baggage fees into the prices, I highly recommend kayak.com One drawback is that kayak doesn't show Southwest, so you have to price those yourself.

Im flying out of the same airport in january and i can tell you that jetblue is one of the better decisions. They tend to have good prices and they let you check one bag a person for free. That along with a carry on bag should be good enough to get everything packed in.

I also fly out of Syracuse (Live in BVille) Using JetBlue, the only "extra" fees would be those attached to overweight baggage (more than 50lbs) or the second bag checked for any traveler. Your first bag is free along with two carry ons. Check the JetBlue website for size limits on carry ons.

If you have a Delta Skymiles Am.Ex card you get a free checked bag for up to 9 people on your reservation (round trip).:sohappy:

If I can hijack the thread momentarily, the Delta Skymiles credit card commercial that I hear on the radio really gets under my skin...

They tout all these "benefits" like the free checked bag, free or discounted snacks, etc, and the only thing I can think in the back of my mind is "Yeah, but they used to offer all of those things for *free* to *all* passengers... Now you get to pay a $95/year annual fee for a credit card that gets you the same things..."

<end rant, now back to your regularly-scheduled thread>
