I just booked a trip for end of September/October and will be staying at the French Quarter for the very first time. I have never stayed there before and would love any advice you could give regarding the resort!

A magical welcome to you! My family loves POFQ. The site previously posted has a lot of good information. The resort is small, so there really isn't a bad building location wise. Nothing is too far to walk. My advice would be to stroll along the Sassagoula in the evening. Beautiful walk, with the occasional clip clop of a horse carriage.

We love the French Quarter - so far our favourite resort at Disney - Our Tip - WATER VIEW and take advantage of the boat ride into Downtown Disney! Such a great little trip - Go at night and enjoy all of the lights - and if you are traveling with children......each boat driver has collector cards similar to hockey or baseball cards.. of the different water craft in the fleet..... Our son loved to collect them. :)
This time we are trying the Contemporary - just for a little change.....Hope we enjoy it 1/2 as much as the POFQ :)

POFQ is the only resort I stay at anymore -- 4 or 5 times a year....its small, easy to get around, and there isn't all that much to give you advise about except enjoy! There isn't a single room that is more than a 5 minute walk from the main building, and everything is contained in that one complex. You'll probably find the resort to be the biggest surprise -- and its why it has become the preferred Moderate Resort, hard to book, and never at a discount....

We are booked at POFQ for May 25-31. My wife and I stayed there without kids in March of 2011, and it was wonderful. Take advantage of the food court, as it is one of the best on property. As a native of Louisiana, I can say that the beignets are not quite on par, but they are good. The greeters at the door are all great and make you feel like you're coming home. As mentioned above, the boat to DTD is a unique perk. The only downside was the wait for the buses to the parks could be a little long, but not bad. Other than that, you will enjoy your time there.

On our last two visits to Disney in 2012 and 13 my wife and I plus members of her family have stayed pofq. The hotel is small compared to riverside and pop century where we also have stayed its by far the best place we have stayed within in Disney, the boat ride to downtown is good esp and night just bit noisey if you sit at the back with the engine.bus stop can get a bit hectic if more than 3 come at the one time they only have 2 bus stops , I enjoy the food court they use to have music in the hotel I think on Thursday Friday n Sunday but it just finished when I was there last time don't know if the have replaced I him with anything else to me it's the best hotel in Disney and for a moderate hotel great rooms are good access is good pool is never to busy when I was there

When you do online check-in 60 days out, I recommend putting in "closest to transportation" and "corner room." Specifically, call to request Building 4. That's the building closest to the buses. But you may want a river view instead.

We always stay at Port Orleans Riverside, but we've been to FQ on several occasions and it's absolutely gorgeous. Port Orleans as a whole is really wonderful. You'll love it!!

I live in Baton Rouge..GEAUX TIGERS! I am currently planning my Disneymoon for next April and have been seriously considering POFQ. My biggest concern was that, having spent so much time in the REAL French Quarter, would I compare too much (like what you said about the beignets) and think its just a bad representation? I'm mainly leaning towards the resort b/c of the smaller size.

Nothing compares to the real thing. So I would suggest don't think about it too much. Otherwise, it's a great resort!

POFQ is my "home" resort too. During the slower times of the day you will share a bus with Riverside but French quarter will be picked up and dropped off first to everywhere except Downtown Disney. What I usually do when I go downtown Disney is take the bus there but take the boat back. Its is a beautiful, small resort.

We're staying at POFQ for the first time on October 8th, I can't wait I hear sure good things. I have only been once and it was just to look around briefly. I have been to the real French Quarters many times and I really like it!

It has become our family favorite due to the size and pace. Very relaxing for us parents but lots of fun to be had for the kids. We love the location on the river and use the boat often. When we come back to the resort after busy times in the park, we feel like we can actually relax. Not all resorts lend to that relaxing feel.

You won't get mugged if you go two blocks off the main drag. You can walk along the river at night without fear of being found floating face down the river. The doorman will give you beads without having to show anything in return. Those are some of the main differences between POFQ and the real thing.

Request Building #5 on the lobby end of the building.

Easy access to food court, buses, laundry, lobby, shop & pool.
