First stage of planning a Disney Wedding!

Hi guys,

I am new to this site and loving all the stories and pictures! My boyfriend and I have been trying to decide on where to get married - and a recent trip to WDW confirmed that it HAS to be a Disney wedding! We went for my 30th birthday, my 5th trip to WDW, but my boyfriends first time, and he loved it! Phew! :ROFLOL:

So, I have been on the WDW Wedding site and looked at the Wish books - the next step is going to be to call Disney and organise - however, before I do so, I would like some more info and was wondering if anyone could help?

Firstly, we are from the UK, and so I need to try and think from memory about locations which is proving difficult. Guest wise we would have no more than 20. My man likes the sound of Sunset Point, but we have issues with numbers. I like the WP, but am afraid with low guest numbers that it will look empty! I am also trying to decide between an escape and wishes wedding - if wishes low season mon to thurs as we will be paying and ideally I don't want to spend more than $10K!!!!

The other thing that I can't get my head around is that I really like the look of the tables and decor and castle in the sky cake on the wishes collection - as for the cake I have no idea on price - Im guessing, if I know Disney it will be lots!!!

Then, if we were to have an escape wedding, where would we eat?! I went to the california grill for my 30th and had the best food and evening, but have no photos of the private room - and wish I had looked! Another option could be the Grande One for food (if possible) and fireworks? Oh - also, I am really girly and would want the full on princess experience with Cinderella's carriage - I mean, why not hey!!!! :ROFLOL:

Any ideas/ help/ photos/ own experience of Disney weddings would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Wow, sounds like lots of decisions to make. I think a non-wedding trip to Disney is in order!

Congratulations and good luck.

Congratulations. Is it this year or next you are planning to get married? It looks like the minimum jumps to $15,000 in 2010.

I am having an Escape wedding at the Wedding Pavillion on March 12th and we will have 20 people. After looking at Seabreeze Point, we decided to choose the Wedding Pavillion. First it is decorated nice so no need to decorate there. The other place we would have to had flowers to spruce it up. Our cost for the pavillion was $5500.00. This includes your cake, photography, limo, flowers, annual passes, the planner, a violinist and organist at the pavillion and champagne to toast. Another bonus to having it at the Pavillion is the cake cutting ceremony is in the Grand Floridian on the Commanders Terrace. It overlooks the water and castle. The violinist also occumpanies you to the cake cutting.

I feel it is worth the price. I had 4 friends get married last year and they spent triple what I did and still wished in the end they would have done the same thing I am doing. Word of caution.....Cinderellas Carriage is $2700.00 to rent. I wanted it to till I saw the price tag....Ouch!!

If you do get married at Disney I highly recommend doing the Magic Kingdom portrait setting. We will have our pictures taken in front of the castle and the Haunted Mansion. I not a big fan of carousels so we switched it. We also added Epcot and will have pictures done in Italy and England. The nice thing about it is, the weekend we are having the pictures done they will have the Epcot garden festival.

Our planner is Kathleen Reynolds, she is wonderful. She handles the Escape weddings and can help you with whatever you need. She is awesome.

Hope this helps!!:)

Oh WOW!!! That helps me soooooo much - thanks!!!! Your wedding sounds just perfect - congratulations!!!! :) And it seems that we like the same ideas, from what you have written!!!! The portrait at the castle sounds perfect - we would def have to do that!!!! And the haunted mansion - how cool!!! And the fact that you can go to other parks also.....plus I didn't realise that you could have the cake cutting at the Grand Floridian.....sorry, typing so quickly but very excited!!! :sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:

Have you decided where to eat yet? Did the wedding planner have any suggestions? Also, I totally agree with you with the cost - which is why we figured that it would be cheaper to fly from the UK to Florida to do the wedding - as it still would cost less than friends of mine have paid at home!

I think that I may ring Disney tonight.....I tried on the weekend and they were closed.....I was so disappointed!! However, I am hoping that tonight will be different!

Thanks again for your help!

We wanted somewhere that everyone could be comfortable and have fun. We love Ohanas. The atmopshere alone is worth it. We are having dinner in the evening so we will get to see the fireworks while we eat dinner. The cost is free for the fireworks. Yeah!!! :sohappy: We just didn't want to wear our wedding attire to anyplace, as we will have to put them on again the next morning for Magic Kingdom photos.
As for the Magic Kingdom photo session...the cost is $1000. It is totally worth it. You get a leather album with your names on it and a copy of all the proofs. We added Epcot for $300 and you get a seperate album for that and you can choose from 1 or more locations depending on your budget. With the Magic Kingdom one, you get the castle and 2 or 3 other locations to choose from, depending on what is being worked on the day you get them done. The only downside is I have to get up at 4am and be ready by 6am for them.

The cake cutting location is included if you have it at the Wedding Pavillion. I would not worry about the pavillion being to big. As I said we only have 20 people, but it was just to nice to pass up.

If you have any questions feel free to ask!!!
By the way....the office is open from 9am to 5pm.
Hope this helps.:)

Firstly, a massive congratulations on your engagement. I actually got married exactly two weeks ago at Disney, and it was definetly the best choice we could have made. Like yourself I am from the Uk, however my husband is American and I am now living in the USA. We only had 27 people at our wedding and held in in the wedding pavilionand then had the reception in the Napa room at the california grill (i to also love the CG!) The Napa room overlooks the magic kingdom, which means if you lucky fireworks! and can hold up to 40 and the other room is the sonama room which holds near the same number but overlooks bay lake. For pics and more you may want to look at www.mouseweddings.com. Even with our small number to wedding pavilion didn't look empty it is designed to hold loads but also look small enough for small parties. The bliss of a small party also means the photographers are more likely to do a group photo. We had a wishes wedding and cake, food, drinks, venue hire etc came to about $14,500 before cast discount. also note its cheaper to get married Mon - Thurs than Fri-Sun as the min spend is lower. I should have photos in the next 24hrs from my wedding so if you PM I will give you the info to look at them, and get a look at the napa room at CG!
