gah i cant wait to see it, and some pro-shots and some production pictures.

I'm waiting anxiously for more production photos as well. Disney is fiercely guarding them! From what I hear they're holding off because a lot of the costumes and set pieces are constantly being altered.

i know this is very off topic, but poor little mermaid. first in the movie, part of the background of the cover looked like....weeeell something else. now in the play, part of the background looks like bongs. oooh dear.

back on topic, im really excited about this show! I'm asking for tickets for Christmas so that I can see it when I'm back home from school for the holidays. broadway really is one of the things i miss most about being home.

I'm going on Sept 5th towards the end of the run. From my understanding of the pre-broadway engagement so far, the general reaction is that Disney has another hit on it's hands. I was pleased to know that the technical difficulties have been few and far between. Some friends went opening weekend and wanted to see it again before it left they enjoyed it so much. I'll post my thoughts on the 6th. It will be interesting to see it on Broadway later and see what changes are made if any.

By the way, they've done substantial revising to the plot in what was the second half of the film- Ursula no longer becomes Vanessa.

:ROFLOL: that really made me chuckle!
Ariel looks really good in the picture.
Wonder if it will ever make it to the UK... sigh...

To clear up some confusion....

The show is in Denver on its out of town tryout. It's official opening night was tonight, actually. Reviews from the Denver critics should be appearing in the next couple of days.

After Denver, the show closes for six weeks before re-opening in New York in early November.

No tour has been announced yet, though I suspect one will go out sometime next year.

I haven't seen the show yet, but will when it comes to Broadway. Here is what I have heard, from my source in the Denver production...

At the moment, Sherie Renee Scott is stealing the show. She plays Ursula, and has worked for Disney before- she was the original Amneris in Aida.

Sierra Boggess is also getting high praise. Sean Palmer (Eric) is not. He apparently hasn't found the character yet, but that is apparently more due to the fact that his character is not very well-written. Titus Burgess, who plays Sebastian, is apparently not getting any laughs, and he may be replaced before Broadway.

I'm also told there has been a lot of re-writing going on, particularly in Act 2. Two songs have been cut, and Menken is writing a new song for Ariel to sing late in Act 2 (it will be her big 11:00 number).

I was told the giant set pieces actually look like bongs, which I am sure is not the image they were going for. Also, from what I've been told, the heelys concept works much better than many people thought it did.

The creative team has identified a lot of the problems that currently exist, and are working to fix them before NY. That's why they have out of town tryouts!
Wow!! Thanks for the great update, Nick!!!!

Let's hope so!

I heard rumours that Tarzan was going in to the West End in 2008 (though doubtful now as it's closed on Broadway), but fingers crossed that like Beauty And The Beast and The Lion King. Little Mermaid will make it!

It's just a scan from Variety, but the first photo of Sherie Rene Scott as Ursula has been published:

Also, here's a review from Variety, and an article from the New York Times:

Gotta say, they know their audience is tourists & their families, so it'll run no matter what the critics or theater fans say.

Thank you for the pic and links.

That Ursula costume is...uh, well....interesting.....I'm interested to see the other costumes now.

I hope the musical stays around long enough to tour the US. I'd love to see it, despite the bad reviews.
