Hi All,

After a couple of dozen trips to the world and doing disneyland paris over a day at versailles, I'M FINALLY going to the original!! March 4th or 5th.

It figures Indy is closed and so is SM, so I ask, What are the "Not to be missed under any circumstances?" I already know the Matterhorn and the ORIGINAL tiki room! Thank goodness for that! The one at the world stinks now. But is splash and Big Thunder different, etc?

Thanks all!

Having never been to DLP, I couldn't tell you how different they are... not sure if Big Thunder will be reopened by then, it's supposed to be a little later in March. Splash Mountain is pretty good, I wouldn't miss that one. :) If you go on the 5th, I'm betting there will be a Fantasmic since that's a Friday. That's not to be missed! Awesome show. For a great meal, the Blue Bayou inside Pirates of the Caribbean is highly reccommended, but be sure to call ahead for that one because reservations are required. Of course, can't miss the original Pirates and Haunted Mansion!

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head!

Big thunder waiting line is different. Splash Mountain logs are different you sit in a row in front of each other, not side by side. Also check out Casey Jr train ride and Storybook Canal Boats in FantasyLand , good orig rides of DL.
There is also the Roger Rabbit ride in ToonTown (Which is better on the whole than WDW)

Also FANTASMIC is hard to watch, so get there early if you want to watch! Actually takes place on Tom Sawyers Island so you have to camp out on the Rivers of America to watch.

If you have time, go to DCA and ride Soaring!! Very cool ride!

Have a blast!

Well, at DL don't miss:

Pirates and HM - both originals and the best at any of the parks (IMHO) Also in the area is Disney Gallery.

Catch Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln on MSUSA

You already have Tiki on your list. Splash Mtn is not a bad choice either.

Be sure to catch Fantasmic.

(Several 'B' list items would include Jungle Cruise, Tarzan Treehouse, Train around the park, Mark Twain/Columbia, and some Fantasyland rides if you like those types.)

You did not mention DCA, but here is my list

Top of the Top: Soarin Over CA and Cal Screaming are both absolute must do's.

Grizzly Rapids is fun.

Catch the Aladdin show if possible.

Golden Dreams with Whoopi is ok if you have the time. Also spend some time in the Hollywood Backlot if you can.

Thanks all

Thanks for all the tips! Call me a goofy doofus, but I'm totally into seeing the original stuff!! This casey jr. train and storybook land sounds awesome!

As I posted, I've done all the stuff at disneyworld, so my thing is to do attractions that I haven't ever done before. Like mr. lincoln, etc. I MUST DO THAT! I've read about fantasyland rides like pinnochio and alice (did alice's curious labrinyth in paris and it was great) and they don't have them in DW so I gotta ride them! But rides like splash, peter pan, big thunder...are they basically the same rides? just in case crowds are nuts I want to know what to skip (even though I could never skip Splash, i could skip Big thunder).

And "Oh Yes!" Mr. Toad!! I WILL ride that! Miss it in "The World" big time!

Thanks for the head's up about pirates! I totally am going to make reservations in that restaurant (my girlfreind has no idea - total surprise!) In paris, they had a restaurant in pirates and we were like "woah!! wish we knew, would've booked it!"

Alas, I will be skipping california adventure, after all...won't I be in california? might as well go spend a day scuba diving in the kelp forests off catalina!!

Any other tidbits (especially original disney stuff) will be much appreciated.

Thanks fellow disney freaks!

I understand the WDW/DL issue. I did the same thing when I went to WDW. Didn't ride most stuff we already have out here (Honey I Shrunk... for example.)

With that said - I would still recco Pirates and Haunted Mansion. They are Walt's projects and are very good. I would also say ride It's A Small World - I think the DL one is better.

In my opinion, you can dump BTMRR, Splash, Winnie, Honey, Star Tours, Jungle Cruise, Main Street Vehicles, Toontown, Tom Sawyer's, Innoventions, Autopia, and selected Fantasyland duplicates.

So, I'd modify my reccos to say:
Lincoln - 100%
Railroad - 75% (Because of the diarama)
Tiki Room - 100% since it is still the original
Indiana Jones - 100% if it is open
Tarzan - 75% Similar to Robinson Treehouse but is good.
Disney Gallery - 100% Neat HM exhibit
Pirates - 90%
Haunted Manion - 100%
Splash - 50% Just a different log - but basically the same
Monorail - Nice overview of the parks. At WDW the Monorail is transportation - at DL it is more of a scenic ride as well as transportation.

Alice In Wonderland - 100%
Fantasyland Theater is the new Snow White Show is open
Matterhorn - 100%
Mr Toads - 100%
Storybook - 100%
PLus any dark ride that meets your fancy (Peter, Snow, Pinnochio)

I hope that helps.

Why? It's very different from WDW's and it has Roger Rabit's Car Toon Spin!

My personal list of things not to be missed~

~Aladdin's Oasis- Aladdin and Jasmine's Storytale Adventures. Sure I may be biased, as it's my home shift, but it really really is great!

~Snow White's Wishing Well. Just listen to the music and absorb the scenery.

~Fantasmic! Avoid this if you ever want to enjoy the WDW version again though. Ours completely blows theirs out of the water. I recently saw it with a few friends at WDW a week ago and we walked otu dumbfounded by how different the two are. WDW has more movie, ours has more action.

~Mickey's Toontown. Read the scenes, check out the details in the town and houses and attractions, catch the little quirky jokes throughout the land. Hit Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin.

~The Matterhorn.

~The Tiki Room

~Tom Sawyer's Island.

~Big Thunder if it's up and running. Again, totally different.

~Haunted Mansion & Pirates of the Carribean.

~Aladdin- a musical blech-- I mean Spectacular. Hey, you gotta see it once I suppose...

~Disney's Electrical Parade.

~California Screamin' and Soarin' Over California... oh and Grizzly River Run if it's warm.

~Alice in Wonderland

~Goofy's Kitchen if you like characters, and eat at the Blue Bayou, too.

You don't like that one? I love it! I see it at least once every trip up there (which usually ends up being every couple of weeks). Saw it three times last Monday. There's a new Aladdin that is niiiiiiice lookin'. ;)

/just listened to the soundtrack the whole way driving her friend back home

Nope. I can't help but be frustrated by more than one technical aspect of the show... I don't want to ruin it for others who haven't seen it though, so if you must know my nitpicks, just PM me. :)

Hey SHARKIE!

I just got back yesterday. GREAT trip!

To be honest, the park is so small you can do it all!!!

...AND YOU SHOULD! Awesome little differences on just about EVERY attraction that the Disney FAN will appreciate!

We never waited more than 5 minutes for anything this week so had plenty of opportunity to try everything more than once!

As said earlier, DL's Fantasmic is MUCH better than WDW's, so be sure to catch it! (performed on Weekends only)!

The biggest disappointment at DL is the EXTREME lack of sit-down restaurants as we were used to at WDW. Blue Bayou looked nice, but is expensive.

For a cheaper and more filling meal, get a Bread Bowl filled with Steak Gumbo or Clam Chowder at the Verandah take-out window in New Orleans Square! :slurp:

HAVE FUN!!!

Glad you had a great trip!! This week was pretty dead - it was nice for a change! I found the park to be packed all this past fall, so imagine my surprise when I got there Monday and no attraction had more than a 50 minute listed wait. :)

Great tips all!

Now, as to when I go, I have a choice. I can go on a wednesday, Thursday OR a friday. Friday is tempting as it has longer hours and fantasmic! are the lines that much more crazy on Friday? I can deal 20-30 minute waits but not 45-hour and beyond. Anybody?

I was totally dissapointed with the fantasmic show in MGM, but hearing everyone's positive reviews makes me want to see the original. I really want to see the electrical parade but my understanding is it's at the other park?

My list thus far (not in any particular order) is this. How am I doing and what am I forgetting?
- Matterhorn (first thing in the AM)
-HM
-Mr. Toad
-Splash
-Mr. Licoln
-Alice
-Pirates
-Storybookland
-Tiki Birds
-Jungle cruise
-Monorail
-BTMR

Does this list sound feasible, and if so, can I add to it?

Thanks!

-sharkster

PS: Does disneyland have...TURKEY LEGS?

Your line up should be very doable. I can't remember your exact dates but IIRC it was early March. That should make Friday doable (and therefore see Fantasmic.)

I was there on 1/16 and had a ver great day. From 10:00 to noon I did Materhorn, IAJ, PoC, HM, JC, and ate lunch. And that getting there an hour after the park opened.

My recco would be hit Matterhorn first, since it is the only operating roller coaster at DL. (Assuming BTMRR is still down.)

Next hit Alice, Storybook and Mr Toads. Kids will be arriving later in the afternoon and evening as all us APs decend on the park. Get it out of the way and you will be fine. If you wanted to do Peter Pan now would be the time - it's line will get massive. (Snow White and Pinnochio rarely have lines and can used as a filler)

Indiana Jones is not on your list? Are you missing it - it is a DL unique.

Come back to the hub and head to the connector to Adventureland. Just to the left is the line wait times board. Check to see what is worse, IAJ or Splash - get a FP for whichever is longer. (BTMRR too if it is open)

If both times are still short - hit em now. If you have to use FP then Jungle, PoC, and HM are great fillers as their wait times should be minimal.

All this leaves left is Lincoln, Tiki, and Monorail which are all easy ons.

9:00 - 10:00 should be Matterhorn and the 3 Fantasyland rides. Another 15 mins if you hit Snow and Pinocchio.

10:00-10:15 movement to Adventureland. I really don't expect rides lines at this early time so you should be able to do IAJ and Splash by 11:00.

11:00 - Noon should be able to do HM, PoC, and Jungle Cruise.

You are near both the French Market and Blue Bayou for kunch.

Maybe take the DLRR train around to MSUSA. Catch Lincoln and then head up and over to TL and try the Monorail. Or up and over to Tiki - either works.

It is now somewhere around 2:00 and you have compelted yoru list. Now you can hit other stuff like the Parade. Also, the new Snow White show should be running in the Fantasyland Theater. Near the theater is Toontown and Roger Rabbit. Also I would suggest Disney Gallery for the HM exhibit - assuming it is still the HM exhibit.

You can hit other rides, re-do your favorites, or do some caprison rides (IASW, Star Tours, etc.)

Sorry - being long winded. Hope that helps.

Thanks RU!

I went on disneyland.com and they say Indiana Jones is closed. That sux! How can they close Indy, SM and BTMRR at the same time? Crazy! It figures, since I was really looking forward to riding it.

Oh! Is there a Country Bear show in Disneyland? I couldv'e sworn I'd read about it in the past but can't seem to find anything recently.

You were right on about my dates - The days I'm now deciding between are Thurs March4 or Friday March 5th.

Gracias!

CBJ was closed and has been replaced with the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Not a good trade-ff in my opinion especially since other dark rides at DL could have been removed due to low visitation.

That's right, I forgot about the IAJ rehab. Maybe you will get lucky. I think 2004 will be bad for DL since everything will be focused on 2005 and the 50th Anniversary. DCA will save part of the day with the opening of ToT in the spring sometime.

Friday early March should work very well.
