First Adulthood trip, with OCD, need tips!

As the title mentioned I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, mainly a fear of germs. This trip is to celebrate my husband and I's ten year anniversary. This is a huge leap for me. The last time I was at Disney was when I was 9, and we went because of make-a-wish. (my sister had cystic fibrosis) Any helpful tips, or heck just good old "everything will be fine" would work. Our trip is December 15-18, and this is high germ season. Thanks guys!

Hotel room: We always bring some zip lock bags, and place things like the remote control for the tv in there for the remainder of the trip. It's less time consuming than cleaning little things like that. We also bring Clorox wipes and clean the toilet, and we wipe it down every day upon returning to the room. And we take the comforter off the bed, and it stays off the bed. Oh! And if you're a germaphobe, I would recommend bringing your own hand soap. Most hotels just have a bar of soap for your hands, and that still kind of grosses me out, because then I think that germs from the whole day are just on the bar now that you keep using. We usually pick up a nice scented soap from Bath and Body and bring that with us for the hotel room.

Parks: Bring hand sanitizer, and definitely use it before all of your meals. Wash your hands frequently (obviously you know this lol). This next bit of advice I kind of do in every day life, but it applies to WDW as well: Don't touch germ surfaces that you don't need to. For instance, I take the subway to work everyday, and if I can't get a seat I've learned to stand without having to hold on to the handrails, because I feel better knowing that I'm not touching it at all. So if you're in line for a ride, and tempted to rest your hand on a bar or handrail don't do it. Even if they get cleaned nightly, tons of germy hands have touched that before you. If you really must lean or something, lean with a part of your body that is covered by clothes, unless you plan on touching your own lower back for instance it won't be a problem. You may also want to avoid buffets. If you do go to buffets, try to go when they first open so there is less of a risk that people used their hands to get food rather than utensils. And if you touch the utensils to get the food, sanitize your hands before you pick up food with your hands and eat it.

You mentioned crowds can be overwhelming - so I would recommend that if you are planning to watch the fireworks at MK you view from the beach at the Polynesian - they pump the music through speakers, it's a much better view and the crowds in MK on Main Street after the fireworks can be ridiculous.

I have two reservations for dinner, one at California Grill 9;40, and one at Narcoose's for 9:30, I am hoping the fireworks from there will suffice. My third Reservation is for Monsieur Paul, which I am hoping is a little less chaotic than other Epcot Dining Choices.

If you take a bus to various parks, be sure to avoid "peak" travel times.....like park closing. The busses tend to be "standing room only" and even for people without your issues, it can be a bit "close". Arrive at the parks later in the day and leave early....the early AM entrance into the MK and the late evening after fireworks exit can be very crowded. The monorail can also be crowded at peak hours.
I hope you enjoy your trip....hope it is magical!:cat:

more like avoid the parks during the end of the spectaculars?.

like WISHES, FANTASMIC and illuminations, most people will leave the parks at the ending of these shows.. and its a seriously huge bulk of people.

Doesn't the contemporary offers good view too?
I've seen many videos taken from the contemporary tower.

I think (and I've been known to be wrong) that you only have access to the California Grill viewing area if you ate there at some point that day (or are still there). Are there other spots to view from the Contemporary?

Not sure honestly, I have not gone up in the contemporary.
It was my first trip back in October (but I'm an avid IT engineer who loves to see videos.. so I noticed a lot of people posting videos of different angles)

My sister and I went to California Grill and I think it is a good choice for you at least for 1 good meal. But if you are not a sushi lover, the menu is rather limited. But the place was just refurbished so not many germs yet and you can see the chefs cooking and they have very powerful stoves and cookers and cook over a wood fire, so nothing was undercooked at all. Still very good and it cost more but Planet Hollywood was not much less and was kind of crappy. Stick to the Disney food, all of it seems to be better. They also have rolled up clean washcloths in the clean restrooms too. You do get a good view of the fireworks there.

Oh, and as mentioned in another thread, you might consider taking a bus and walking to the Contemporary, those monorails are icky!

We do have a reservation for California Grill during the fireworks! and then at Narcoosee which is supposed to have a good view too. No in park night shows for me. I reall need to stop reading the threads with the vomit stories in them :) And with cooler weather I am hoping to get away with wearing light gloves.....

Smaller crowds will help for sure. I am also happy we are staying at the Yacht Club. It is a little closer so I can "escape" for a few if need be. I also chose "higher end" restaurants in hopes that it will help curb my fear of food poisoning.

I understand getting away but, regarding the parks, I suggest more time in AK. It lends itself to more leisure touring than the other parks. Lessxneed to feel rushed to get from attraction to the next.

Top of the World at Bay Lake Tower, though you have to be a DVC member to go up. I think you can also view from the balcony in the main tower near the breezeway to BLT, but I don't think they play the music, and I'm pretty sure it'd be crowded. Probably the breezeway to BLT as well
