Fireworks

Looking for suggestions on shooting the Wishes fireworks at MK. I want to get the classic fan shot with two sets of fireworks behind the castle. Has anybody timed the show to find out when this happens? Anybody use the built in intervalometer to shoot every five seconds or so?

Also, I'm not keen on carrying a tripod around all day just for the show at night, going back to the car and back to MK again is too much. Hints?
TIA

Find a nice spot on a trash can and pray no one tall stands directly in front. Unfortunately, a tripod is somewhat of a necessity for this.

Low ISO, mid f-stop, long exposures. Shoot raw and fix the white balance later.

Thats very simple. Its one of the basic "Wishes" show shots. You will need a tripod and to know the music very well as to when to open the shutter and close the shutter. You want to open the shutter right before it starts and close it right after the two aerial shells. I suggest you rent a locker for the tripod.

Manual shutter release, ISO 100 f/11-f/14ish and a tripod with the camera on the 'bulb' setting' Auto white balance should be fine.

An intervelometer will not work to get what you want. It will get you a time lapse of the show.

That would take some really really good luck! You're going to need a tripod for this. I agree with Dave's settings.

That's why I posted the non tripod option ;)

Granted, on a VERY slow night it's completely possible, it's not recommended.

Buy a lightweight tripod that you can hang from a backpack. For a while I carried a lightweight tripod at the park hanging from a belt loop.

I don't know the music at all but I've seen other people's videos and I presume it's the same display each time. What I meant by using the intervalometer is set it to take multiple five second exposures over the entire display, so that you don't have to touch the camera or use a remote control.

I wonder if there's any good poles or something I could maybe wrap a Gorillapod around.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Here you go... watch and learn a bit :) The video is a bit soft, but it should give you the gist.

I understand what/how you want to use the intervelometer. I've used one to take time lapse before. But what i'm saying is that if you use that, you will not get the shot you want.

Thanks for the video. Is there two chances for the 'fan' fireworks?

I've seen a shot taken from far away with the entrance and everything reflected in water that I'd like to try next month.

Yes, you get two chances at the moment.

Can you post a link to the shot to which you refer?

Can't seem to find it again at the moment. It was from the TTC or Polynesian resort with the reflection in the Seven Seas Lagoon, with the outline of the train station and all the lights.

I'll make some timing notes marni1971, my memory is terrible.

Here is the shot for which you're looking: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pasant/3892479313/

That was taken by my friend, Matt. Without a remote shutter release and a stable tripod, you won't get a shot like that from the TTC.

Yes, that's similar to the one I saw but the other one was a slightly wider shot with more reflections in the water, maybe a higher elevation. If it wasn't taken at the TTC, where was it taken?
