You have to go through a course by Disney to get pyro certified, I believe. Unfortunately, having a pyrotech certification through Disney is moot if you want to do other pyrotech stuff. My friend, Jeremy, is looking to be certified, but when he found out that Disney's personal certification can't qualify as a general theatrical certification, he tossed the idea of Disney out of the running for jobs when he graduates.

I've been curious about this myself! Had a blast this past summer learning about how all the fireworks were run at SeaWorld (both the big end-of-the-night show and the smaller stuff we used at Cirque) and I'd love to know how Disney does their pyro hiring...
