Fireworks at Disney compared anywhere else?

Well I have always said that "Wishes" at Magic Kingdom has been the best fireworks show I have ever seen for a lot of reasons. I wont list them all but will list the obvious.
Amount of Fireworks, Theme, and Soundtrack
Yesterday the lady and I went to the St. Petersburg Pier in Florida and saw what was supposed to be the best fireworks show in the Tampa Bay area.... Perhaps this was true.... But it wouldn't even compare to Wishes.
Not only did each firework go off one at a time...But the grand finale seemed to have shot all at once which left the explosions only to be seen behind a huge cloud of smoke. Pathetic. Needless to say everyone around us was cheering as if they have never seen anything better.... Aparently they have never seen Wishes.

While Disney fireworks are wonderful, the soundtrack and the fact that it's in Disney make them alot more impressive than they actually are. Grucci Fireworks put on some of the best shows in the world, in my opinion. I grew up in NY, and I have seen private people put on a show in the street that are about 1/4 of what Wishes is. When DH and I first saw Wishes, we were both like 'Well, it's nice to see fireworks in Disney' but we were in no way impressed. Even last night, we watched the Fantasy in the Sky from the TTC (although I have seen it with the music) and it was good, but not great.

What makes Wishes and any other fireworks show at Disney so special and spectacular is that it's at Disney, behind Cinderella's Castle, or behind the BAH, or on a lake with lasers and pyro. The actual fireworks are not anything terribly impressive.

Ii love Disney fireworks. But for 4th of July, nothing is better than the home town feel of us poor people setting up our lawn chairs in the empty field across from the country club, so that we can watch their fire works show. There isn't anything that special about their fire works. As a show it doesn't compare to Wishes, but as I said, it has that home town feel about it that can't be bet.

I'm not denying that other places have better firework displays, but I also tend to give Disney a couple extra bonus point because they have to create a show that can be launched on a nightly basis, every...single...night.

The big-budget spectacular shows in the major cities for the 4th of July are one-time deals that are set up over multiple days. (I know up here in Boston they said that set-up was 10 days) The pyro crews at the Disney parks have an 8-hour shift to do it.

So I *definitely* give Disney bonus points for repeatability.
Now, if the people that did the Boston show could do that EVERY night for a whole year, THEN I'd be hugely impressed. :D

These days, anyone who actually makes a decent show involving audio (fire one technology, etc) where things make sense and are timed down have my money. And Grucci, of course.

Does anyone remmber the APA (american pyrotechnic association) videos that surfaced from when they had their convention at WDW in 2005?

My wife is not a fan of fireworks. Its nearly impossible to get her to watch them other than Disney. I also agree I do prefer Disney Fireworks.

Disney spends millions of dollars everynight on their fireworks and have their own staff of professionals who send them off. It is a big thing that they have almost perfected. :)

..except for that one time I was walking through fantasy land during wishes and a piece of firework fell down and almost hit the people in front of us, and all of a sudden like 5 suited cast members appeared and asked if everything was ok and handed them a t-shirt and disappeared haha

I think the thing that makes the Disney fireworks so spectacular is that everything is choregraphed to go so well together. When there is a swell in the music, there is a huge burst of fireworks, when the music is quiter, you see a lone arc across the sky. I feel this way especially during Illuminations. To me, it's not just about the fireworks, but the whole show.

After being at WDW for 9 days and seeing all the great fireworks there, nothing else compares. Can't wait to get back there!!

Wishes may well be the most :lookaroun emotional :lookaroun fireworks show I have seen. Maybe that is because of my daughter's reaction.

Best overall fireworks show. . .

The Toyota/WEBN Labor Day Fireworks show in Cincinnati. WEBN, a classic, album oriented Rock station has been putting together sound on this for years and years. The riverfront is framed by two bridges where they simulate a waterfall. Awesome. Nearly 40 minutes and the last 5 to 10 are incredible. Your body actually shakes during the finale.

The Rozzi family puts the show together with WEBN.

A great way to end the Summer.
