You are so right

You are so right happy. Theming is what makes or breaks a ride. With disney's excellent record of providing quality and need I say EXTREMELY detailed and themed rides, I can see Fire Mountain become one of my favorites. You know how careful Disney is when it comes to detail. Nothing would be more fun than to be flying through caverns inside a mountain with bubbling lava below you. What makes Disney what it is comes from their ability to put its guests into experiences and adventures in a safe but very realistic way. The things Disney could do with this ride take my breath away just thinking about it.

Diane I knew there was someone else out there that didn't know either! Oh well, like you said, thats what friends are for. You'll never find out anything in life without asking!:D

Unfortunately, this attraction is very very unlikely to happen. It was considered a few years back, but from everything I know of the projects current status - it is gone for good.

Main reasons...

1. The performance of the prototype Vekoma lay-down coaster was not good enough for what Disney wanted.

2. The ride system could not meet Disneys capacity and load speed requirements

3. IOA failed miserably to make a dent on Disney's attendance figures - meaning a lot of the cool emergency counter-measure attractions were not needed.

MK expansion is directed elsewhere for the time being. :)

oh well...

You make a very valid point. I guess the only thing we can do is wait several years or until technology that Disney is happy with is created. I don't know about you but I won't give up hope... at least for a while.

Coaster

Well I think when it comes to the technology aspect of the roller coaster I think that perhaps it has now gotten to the point where it is a viable option. Vekomo has improved on it's flying technology since it opened Stealth and now B and M is building flyers I think it is safe to say the technology is good. Anyone who has ever ridden a B and M coaster will tell you that there is no such thing as a bad B and M. Now Arrow Dynamics (although bankrupt has long been a Disney partner) has opened there 4th dimension coaster X and the reviews are great. If they can perfect that technology. The free swinging Double Flying Coaster I can't imagine what Disney could do with that. Combining the flying sensation, the near miss swinging of the Big Bad Wolf, and a little Disney Imagineering. WOW!! Hopefully, this will be a reality at some point and sooner rather than later but I wont hold my breath:p

What an idea!

What an idea! The fourth dimension coaster would be a great idea that I never though about. How about this. Take the fourth dimension signature style of putting riders on the sides of the track, but make them stable so they don't rotate. Then, instead of sitting down, add the Vekoma aspect of lying down. Then add a little of Test Track's loading style (three cars at a time which are later separated by timing) to fix Disney's problem with loading times. Now thats what I call flight!:D

If anybody else have any ideas on what fire mountain might turn out to be if it is built, post it here!:)

loading

well don't the newer laydown flyers have dual loading stations now. That means it is possible to have 4 trains in the station at one with one waiting to dispatch and one returning. And although it would probably take a lot of space why not split the track again and load three tracks at a time

And that's for good reason. IOA only has maybe 2 or 3 crowd-drawing attractions: The Incredible Hulk Coaster, Amazing Adventures of Spiderman, and Dueling Dragons. Otherwise, the park may have some nice theming elements, but the rest of the attractions there are among the lamest around.

I agree

I hope it comes back too. It is such a great concept and Disney would regret it if they gave it completely up. They also need to hurry up and put some blueprints together so they can copyright them (they copyright all of their plans so no other amusement park can use their ideas). I am sure the people who come up with attractions for other theme parks would be more and willing to take Disney's idea. They have plenty of places on the web where rumors have been started. Come on Disney, add Fire Mountain to MK!:king:

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
Must disagree about IOA i think that Duddly Dooright is great fun, Popeyes better than the river rapids at AK, and i was so let down that Poseidans Fury was closed last year that was brill. You cant really knock IOA as the park opened with those rides. The best way to judge will be how it develops.
Another point about attendance figures is that someone like me from the UK will try to visit all the attractions during our holiday. The biggest argumebt about our next trip is what should be given up to allow a trip to Busch gardens, weve already binned Sea world, shame i can just buy a ticket to ride Krakken , forget the rest

wow

Thanks Disney Dan. All I can say is wow. I had no idea it had ever been described in so much detail. I also had no idea that they had actually done prep work on fire mountain. WHAT HAPPENED? It disappeared! And what a concept! A rollercoaster that changes to a different style of rollercoaster halfway through the ride! You know what happened. Disney found out that many people had leaked info on fire and villian mountains. So to have the same build up in hype that they wanted, they put both projects into storage for a while so the hype would be bigger. Remember the saying "time heals all?" Well time heals all because people recover and FORGET. By waiting people will think that these two concepts will never happen and forget about them, later on being "surprised" when Disney announces them. All I can say is I hope this really happens, because a concept like fire mountian and villian mountain cannot go unnoticed.:)

We shall see if Disney will build Fire Mountain once Reign of Fire is released this summer. All I can say is that the movie sounds like one of those hyped up and anticipated movies that will probably be horrible. If the movie flops I predict that Villian Mountain gets the green light and Fire Mountain gets shelved. Animal Kingdom will probably then get some sort of Indy ride maybe like Disneyland Paris instead of getting Fire Mountain.

I've always wished that they'd do more with that 20,000 Leagues area besides Ariel's Grotto, and maybe tying it in with Atlantis would be good, since the water is there etc. But I wonder if there's enough space over there to do a big attraction??? It's hard for me to tell.

I don't know

I don't know for sure, but I have heard that the piece of land 20k sits on actually goes back quite a ways. Theres actually more land there than you think, I think.

Last I heard this ride was more likely to hit AK then anywhere else (especially if Reign of Fire Does well.) This could be a Beastly Kingdom ride.

Just rememeber, Imagineering has hundreds of Ride ideas that never get used. Fire Mountain and Villian mountain are both sitting there and could be used. They could pull out something from 20 years ago. That's why these rumours happen like this. Imagineering is working on something and it hasn't truely been greenlighted yet, but the rumors fly. Then it doesn't get approved, just like dozens of other projects every year and the fans are up in arms, when really they never lost out on anything. One of the problems of the Intronet. :)

A Few notes:

- The most logical usage for the 20K lagoon, would be the Aquatopia attraction from DisneySeas....It takes up little space, wouldnt cost too much, and would use up "dead land"....why Disney hasnt done this yet is beyond me.....

- I dont see either Fire Mountain or Villain Mountain ever coming alive...

- Beastly Kingdom (or "Beastlie Kingdomme" as it would be called, according to CM's) has evolved so much in the last 10 years, yet we still arent sure it will ever open. And if it does, im sure it would be VERY different than the ideas floating around for many years. With the creation of Primeval Whirl, i see the creation of another coaster in Beastlie Kingdomme unlikely, even though im sure the area would have some sort of E-Ticket (likely something new altogether, or possibly a "Journey to the Center of the Earth" type ride or something similar), and one or two other minor attractions.
- I think a fantastic addition to Animal Kingdom would be an "Australia" section (another noted rumor), maybe with a "Soarin' Over Australia" ride.

- I honestly dont see all of this happening tho, especially not at once, considering Disney is SUPER busy, with Mission Space and Phillarmagic here, ToT and Bugs Land in CA, the five ride makeovers in DL, ToT in DS Paris, and the making of DL Hong Kong, all before 2006.......I think the next thing after Mission Space for WDW will be Beastly Kingdomme in 2006 (hopefully sooner), with an E-Ticket for MK buy 2009, and more major attractions for MGM, Epcot, and AK by 2012.....

Im rambling, peace........

NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
Not the dreded FM rumor! IT'S ______________ ME IN!!! AHAHAH!

If Disney does anything new there, it's going to be the end of the lake. If any of you has ever owned a pool, it costs a fortune, and imagine that times 1000 and you get 10K lagoon. So, expect two new rides there in a new wearhouse, and that seems more reasonable and predictable.
