Figment's Place?

I just read on the "Friends of Figment" web site that a new attraction is to open in 2005 where one of the old Kodak camera shops used to be. It will be a meet and greet with an oversized Figment figure. I apologize if this is old news. I just thought that it might be interesting to see what everyone else thinks about this. The site is under constuction, but some of it is still up and running, and this news is from June of this year.

I hope this is true.

My kids grew up with Figment.
My youngest still has her Figment plush and is 22 years old.
She got it when she was 5 or 6.

Figment was at one time almost considered the "Mascot" for EPCOTS future world and it's good to have him back.

At one point I thought he was gone forever. :lookaroun

I definetly hope that's true. It's a shame they have cut back on him so much. I love dragons and he is just absolutly the cutest thing ever!

My son who is now 22 used to call him "Figmink" some 20 years ago !

We're actually on our 2nd generation of Figment hats. I think he definitely deserves a little more respect.

From what I have read on other threads, it is true. I didn't see any construction signs or anything when I was down there, but that doesn't mean that it's not happening.

I think it would be great to have a meet and greet with Figment! I love him and I'm so glad the ride again has some Figment in it!

Figment is what I remember most from my childhood. I'm 22 and my brothers are 27 and we still have these little Figment puzzles. The idea of the puzzle was to move the pieces around on the board (they were clipped in place so you couldn't life them up) and make a picture of Figment. After awhile we just took the pieces out and arrange them. LOL

Figment rocks.

I actually heard this from a CM on another Disney group a number of months ago. At first I was worried I'd miss it (since my passes ran out in June, I simply haven't even come close to having the cash to renew them), but apparently no, it's still forthcoming.

A Figment Meet-and-Greet. Sweeeeet.

This will more than likely be a walk up to Figment, get a photo taken, and pay.

Something much more courteous (and beneficial) to guests would be the return of The Dreamfinder with (animated) Figment versus an oversized Figment. . .

(It would be a memorable experience versus a quick money-making tool, but Disney just doesn't seem to care. . . )

I agree with your idea, Gen. Grizz. I have a lot of memories of seeing Dreamfinder and his Figment puppet walking around the JII pavillion. I really miss it all!

FIGMENT!! This would make me so happy. I still have my Figment plush sitting out in my room. I believe my parents got him for me when they went in 1985 when my mom was pregnant with me.

My best friend when I was little, her older sister swore up and down that Figment's name was Pigment. And my mom kept telling her "No, really, it's Figment, a figment of imagination", and she wouldn't listen, and her mom was like "Shara, if Robin says it's Figment, it's Figment. They've been there a lot more times than we have". But she wouldn't budge. As far as I know, she still thinks it's Pigment. :P

Come on Grizz...lets not start that again. We all know Dreamfinder is a thing of the past, we all miss him but he is unfortunately history.

He is not history. . . I saw him last week on I-4. ;)

His beard is getting a LOT longer, the poor unemployed keeper of the sparks. . .but I tell you, the Dreamfinder is alive, well, and needs a spot back at home. :D

This might be a little off topic, but there's a stairway in the Imageworks/shop that is roped off. I assume it leads up to some observatory upstairs considering all the glass up there. What's up there? Is it just an observatory? Was it ever open to the public? Just curious...

The Imageworks used to be upstairs in the glass pyramids. I'm not sure of what stairway you're speaking of, as I rarely go near the pavilion since the original ride is gone. But the Imageworks was upstairs, that much I know.

I love ya too, aimster. So does the Dreamfinder. :D

Rotel - - this comes from a post I made a couple days ago:

Boy, are you in for a story.

The Imagination Institute wasn't always comprised of a 7 minute ride and a bunch of McDonalds computer screens. Oh, no. This area was once home to the Journey into Imagination, one of Epcot's signature attractions that had more special effects than any other in Disney history at its opening. It followed a (CHARMING and DELIGHTFUL) Figment and his creator, the humble, but knowledgable, Dreamfinder through the realms of creativity. Giant artforms, pop-up books, scenes of science, and theatre were constructed by Imagineers with extreme attention to detail and meaning.

The entire area used to be full with bright colors - bright blue, light purple, and murals. The staircase was completely open, in the center of a giant loading base. Up the stairs was the IMAGE WORKS. Not only did this area offer a delightful view of Epcot, but it also housed one of the most creative areas in all of Walt Disney World. Guests could star in their own film with the Dreamfinder, paint giant photos of Figment and the Dreamfinder through the air, conduct an orchestra, and much more. This was an area that could be found no where else - a place kids and parents could enjoy at the same time.

Because of cost-cutting measures, Dreamfinder, the Image Works, and the ride were all butchered. The ride was cut in half - from a 13 minute ride to just over a 7 minute ride - and the Image Works was set to live in the dust. Dreamfinder never returned, and Figment, too, was lost and replaced by Dr. Nigel Channing. It didn't work.

Disney got more complaints than ANY OTHER ATTRACTION IN DISNEY HISTORY (combined, I've heard), totalling a million solely from Kodak. Disney HAD to bring Figment back. But the new attraction still doesn't cut it. Figment is now just a Bugs Bunny in purple skin, and the attraction is half black space, old areas covered up by black curtains. Attendance is saddening, but merchandise, of course, is plentiful (as it was even when Figment was removed from the pavilion. Ugh!)

You haven't lived until you've seen the original Journey into Imagination! You can see photographs and videos at this website - www.figmentsimagination.com and www.friendsoffigment.org - both of which are under rehab. If it weren't for the Friends of Figment, Figment may have never been brought back to the pavilion! Could you imagine - Disney trying to pull of a pavilion about Imagination with a bad budget, a butchering of classic, well-loved characters, and bad storytelling? It just doesn't work.

The pavilion will no longer be the same until the heart is brought back through the Dreamfinder, the childish delight through Figment, and the care through a brand new attraction that enlightens the senses TRULY, creating worthy memories for all who dare to enter into that pavilion whose theme stands for the very essence of the Walt Disney Company. . .

Thanks Grizzz!!! First time I went on this ride was August 2000 so I didn't get to do the original. I know it was longer and a lot of people on the fansites were upset that it was changed but I've never gotten any real explanation why. At the time, I didn't think the ride was so bad mostly because I didn't really have anything to compare it to. Rode it again this past July and it just felt so tacked together. Felt like they just went thru and added Figment in after having gotten all those complaints. I didn't realize Imageworks already existed upstairs. I thought the whole point of having redone the ride was to add in Imageworks. So now I'm curious, why exactly was this ride redone if there doesn't seem to be anybody who thought it needed to be redone? Otherwise, it seems like they just removed Figment, Dreamfinder, shortened the ride and added in Imageworks on the bottom floor. Any chance they could move Imageworks back upstairs and bring the ride back to it's original length? I did notice attendance was terrible both times I rode it. Seems like they would have a better way of directing people over in that direction. I don't think most people realize there's anything over there but a shop.
