Figment going to take longer

It's too bad they couldn't have "re-located" the old rides like Horizons, JYII, etc...they have more than enough land to store them. Granted, they'd have to re-build the buildings, which is hardly economical, but it would have been nice to preserve them someplace else than a warehouse.

Figment Returns June 1, 2002

Things may have changed since press time (and the official Disney website has not reflected this infomation) but here is the latest that I've found on the return of Figment.

“Figment, the purple dragon hosted Journey into Your Imagination at Epcot until his retirement in 1999. Now, he returns on June 1 – along with his catchy song “One Little Spark.”

Journey Into A Bunch Of Nothing

In this grand update of Journey Into Your Imagination, it sounds like the only thing that they have done is added back Figment and the song, One Little Spark...however.....if it still features the same crummy scenes from the last incarnation.....like the amazing unimaginative Upside down room, I have no hope for it.
Adding Figment puts a band aid on the problem...it doesn't fix the concept.
I'm hoping I'm completely wrong about this.:hurl:

I was at wdw last week end and a cast member informed my family that the new figment will be running starting june 1. The cast member said she was in the process of trainig to be a ride operator for the new figment.

It baffles me that Disney cleared a reported 30 million dollars to update JIYI and it will be basically the same ride with a few improvements and figment, if Islands of Adventure acn build The Incredible Hulk coaster for only 22 million, what could Disney possibly have up their sleeves.

The budget for the makeover was 7.5 million not 30 million. If they had 30 million they could have created a brand new ride.

From what is known, it seems that MS will more like a "souped up" version of Star Tours.

I hope is not. A simulation won't be worthy enough to replace Horizons and to fulfill the people who's waiting for the grand opening. I think it will be something really new, not near to any technology used in an attraction right now- sort of like Spiderman amazed everyone with a combination of movements, action and 3D tech - this will be a ride that will change "it".

I'm hoping that the refurbished JIYI, with the return of Figment (HALLELUJAH!!!) will be a tremendous improvement over the disappointing ride it is replacing. For 7.5 million, they ought to be able to do a bit more than just shoehorn Figment and "One Little Spark" in.

JIYI is one of the reasons I'm going in August...sure hope it's up and running then!:D

JIYI has a new "smell test". Mission: SPACE isn't supposed to be a souped-up anything. It's brand new and you cannot compare it with anything else...for one, it's realistic. There are no explosions in space...there's no oxygen....oh...for that means, no sound...no medium for it to travel through! Star Wars would be so boring if it followed the laws of physics...

Well a few people are saying we dont know enough about the attraction to say what it is and what it isn't. The only thing not really known about MS is the story line.

It will be a simulator. It will not be a ride-through attraction like Horizons. You will be inside a large centrifuge. The centrifuge will spin at high speeds to produce positive g-forces. The centrifuge will slow down real fast to produce simulated negitave g-forces (weightlessness). There will probably be some sort of video display to convey you are traveling somewhere.

It all sounds very neat I think. Most people have never experienced a centrifuge before.

Here is some links to the company building the ride technology.
