Festival Disney, Galaxy Palace and more...

Time for some more updates, sort of. Next week is a decision week. If you know why, you know why. If you don't know why, you wont. But lots of decisions will be made next week on many things.

The Galaxy Palace Theater will be around longer than expected, possibly for 2 more years. The Dock Stage would take more work than expected to convert, so things are being re-evaluated.

The new theater at FD is tentative for late-spring, which means it might not get much use if any in FY 2008.

That's all for now. If I can share anything after next week, I will. But no promises. Depends what is covered.

Umm.. ok..

Where's the dock stage? I'm drawing a blank.

Oh well, all this talk of stages.. Suppose anything bigger might come out of the talks? We've really got diddly for 2008 beyond Toy Story, and that's not really doing much for hype.

Dock stage is at Downtown Disney. It's a very popular stage for performance groups, but it is very limited due to size and it not being covered, so groups have to be turned away from that location during spring break, summer, and especially the month of december.

And yeah, stages just happen to be something I have to know, but lots of things will be discussed all week next week. Much of what is discussed will become common knowledge in January/February.

YoYo we are all big Disney geeks YES! But we do not know all the lingo you are saying. Your "news" might be breaking to you and a few other, but if Merf has no idea what you are talking about you might want to dumb it down some.

What is Festival Disney?

From what I've been gathered it's a band/choir/colorguard competitive program that's run by Disney. Here's a link I found about it. I believe it's a newer program and includes judging and awards, as opposed to the performance only magical music days program that's brought in high school bands and such for performances for many years. The theater ImaYoyo is referring to is the old hunchback theater in MGM, which I think is/will be renovated exclusively for these programs.

I am learning more about it sense my new role encompasses Festival Disney. A lot of what DisneyDrum just said above me is pretty accurate. It is a term the encompasses any competitive or judge based performance of youth music groups at Disney. Some of the festivals are open and others are invitation only.

DisneyDrum hit it on the nose, Festival Disney is similar to a HUGE solo and ensemble competition, but with Color Guards, Drumlines, Bands, Orchestras, Drum Corps, ect. It's still fairly new, but didn't take long for it to become the biggest competition in the country.

Being a high school band member who went to countless music festivals and having worked with Festival Disney, I have to say it is the best open festival out there. Like it was said before, it is sort of like a competitive Magic Music Days.

It was created a few years ago because the festival company that was on property opted out and Disney Youth Group Programs did not want to let those sales go. Everything worked for the best because FD gives a unique experience unlike any other festival in the country. When you see an award ceremony in the LMA theatre with the whole thing on the big screen, it is an impressive site.

I am glad to see that there may be a semi-permanant place for the program.
