feeling nervous here...

That is very nicely put. It's been my theory over the years that most folks who complain are simply suffering from park burnout. They lament that the parks have gone downhill, that they no longer feel the magic that they once did. While there are some things that Disney could of course do better, it's my thought that there's still plenty of value in the place. When I start to feel that fading away, I'll stop visiting. But so far there seems to be no danger of that.
I no longer feel the "magic" that I did on my first few visits, but, I wasn't expecting it to feel the same upon repetition. I liken it to the thing we feel if we go back to the house we grew up in and marvel at how small it is now compared to when we were kids. Sadly, the house didn't change... we did.

First trip?

You'll get home and start saving for the next one. Trust me.

It may have fallen but it was so high to begin with that it's still above most other places.

Exactly how I feel.

Well, maybe not the planning to come back part.

Years ago, I would have said yes. The first trip would have converted you and that would be the beginnning of the end - you would be planning trips, looking at DVC, and all other assorted aspects of being addicted.

Now, if I was going for my first time, I would say that I would be satisfied. I would not feel diappointed, but I don't think I would have the "man, I want to go back next year" feeling that I had when I went for my first time as an adult in 1998 (maybe, I think 98, somwhere around there)

Thanks everyone!
We are having dinner at 1900 park fare so we'll see Grand Floridian! We also have dinner reservations for Boma so we'll visit the lodge;-)
I also really want to see Poly
wow i cant wait now!! Leaving on Saturday!!! I've already packed!!!!

Why not go over to AKLodge early and go out to Arusha Rock where you children can see lots of savanna animals that live at the lodge. There will be a Castmember out there to answer any questions you or your family may have. It is an incredible resort and one NOT to be missed. Boma's is right downstairs and is one of our VERY favorite places to eat dinner.

I think your idea of doing the safari twice is a good idea. Every time you go you'll experience something different. Try in the morning and then in the afternoon. Oddly enough, if it's raining, don't hesitate to go on the safari then. Our experience is that many animals seem to be more active then. In some ways, you might even consider doing the walking trails a couple of times.

Also, when you visit Rafiki's Planet Watch (conservation area) just as you enter the building, you'll see these huge murals of animals. Throughout the murals, you can find "Hidden Mickeys" such as the pupil of an eye or a pattern on a butterfly. This is always fun for the kids. They also have book that you can purchase to give you clues on Hidden Mickeys throughout all of the parks. Something else to consider. It's a challenge and fun!

Don't worry the people on these forums fight over little details and they are hardcore. It's like talking football to a life long fan. They may be throwing a fit over something you have no idea about. Especially team verse team discussions.

Ain't that the truth!!! Sometimes I think a person who has never been is better off not coming on here before their first trip. It's information overload and a lot of it is just opinion and like you said, from hardcore fans.

I have been going to WDW for 20 years and still get emotional being there. I love it and if there are any little things that are negative I ignore it and choose to focus on the all of the amazing things that make WDW special. I did not see if you had hopper passes but we always get them. That way you can do half day AK and half day Epcot. BTW, Epcot is my favorite park and I spend days just there when I go on my solo trips. You will have a great trip! I am so excited for you and your family.

Arusha Rock as at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Level 3 of the Lodge is actually the Lobby, so you need to go through the lobby and down the stairs. You will see Arusha Rock out the great glass doors of the lobby. The animals freely roam around the grounds and a cast member can talk to you about their behaviors, habitats, etc. Do this before it is dark.

My wife and I take our 3 children (17, 6yr old twins) every year and always have a great time. As soon as we get back we start planning the next trip. This summer will be my 30th visit to WDW and I get just as excited as the first visit there back in the 80s. We also always make a trip to Universal for a couple of days. You'll enjoy it, have a great time!

To the OP, many of the posters here are nitpickers and curmudgeons.
They, know too much if you will and thus squabble about what should be, used to be etc.
When they first visited the parks (as you will be doing) they knew none of those things, and simply enjoyed what was there.
Too much information is a bad thing for some people some times - don't let them get you down!
Additionally, anything new that you do has that first time feel.
It's all knew, all surprising.
Most of these posters have been to the parks so many times, that there is no "wonder" left, and all they do is detail on the details.
Some got old of mind as well. They've become Grandpa Simpson and won't be happy with anything.
Enjoy your trip, you'll love it!

I really think you would, because all the stuff that made you attracted to it still exists in different things. It's the general atmosphere, not tainted by negative feedback, that made you like it as much as you did. That still exist for first timers. Yes, there is a lot more planning involved then necessary years ago, but, that like everything else is the norm on a first trip now.

Traveling with little ones adds its own stresses so remember to take plenty of breaks, not rush, and don't worry about seeing and doing everything. Focus on what the kids like and just relax and enjoy. And let us know how your trip went!
