a good rule of thumb is about 4 days before you go. Any sooner and they may not do anything with it. They usually will start with room requests about 3 days out. Remember when you are writing your requests to be nice. A little sugar goes a long way. check out www.allearsnet.com for more information and a template for this. They are a wealth of knowledge and can suggest what is appropriate to request and what is not.

Fax room requests at WDW resorts normally go into the trash. They do not have the time (nor the inclination) to look at those faxes. However, the really funny requests are posted in the break rooms for laughs! It is far better to make your room request at the time you make your reservation.

Woody? I have a "water" view at the Boardwalk Inn for our upcoming trip in late December, and I had my travel agent request one of the rooms mentioned in the Insider's Guide as having the best views of the lake- "specifically odd-numbered rooms 3213 to 3255 and 4213 to 4255" - several weeks after we made the reservation. Does the actual room number request go into my "water view" computer account some where, or did they ignore her request? And finally, should I then call the hotel to double check on the room number in the near future, or wait until the suggested four days before the trip (I am thinking with the high crowds I anticipate during this time, it may be in my best interest to call more than the four days before my trip). Sorry, to ask so many questions.

Finally, I would love to read the faxes the CM's deemed worthy to post on the boards!

thanks

I have always faxed a request and it has always been taken care of. For instance, when I was there is April I faxed a request about 3 days prior to my trip and the CM at checkin stated that my request was recieved and it would be not problem to accomodated me. I almost never request anything when I make my ressies. It is always after the fact! Just my personal experience! Hope this helps some of you who are on the fence about faxing a request.

That does help. Unfortunately, according to allearsnet the Boardwalk Inn does not accept faxed room requests. So, I am going to call!

I can't answer for POR, but I modified the suggested letter from allears when we went to All Star Sports last week. I faxed it down 4 days ahead of arrival, and when we checked in, the rooms were exactly as we had requested. That may have been just luck (or that Disney magic) but it worked for us.

As the back of your confirmation letter states: DO NOT CALL THE HOTEL PRIOR TO ARRIVAL.... The only way you can call and get a room request, is through concierge (if you are staying on a concierge level). Otherwise, they will refer you to the 407-WDisney number. If you call and bug em, the reverse may happen, and you may get one of the worst water view rooms!

That must be kinda new. They did in October of 2002. I mentioned in the fax it was our anniversary and they gave us a nice gift basket.

I'm 3 for 4 on faxed room requests so I know someone somewhere is reading them.

The "Villa" hotels nolonger accept faxed/called requests, everything must be done through CRO or your agent

Here's what has been posted on allearsnet.com regarding room preferences as of May 2004. When I made my reservation for WL last May I requested non-smoking due to my husband & daughters asthma. The CM informed me that all room requests had to be made at the time of reservation.

Important Change in Resort Faxing Policy - May 2004

As of December 15, 2003, Disney's Wilderness Lodge is no longer accepting fax requests for room assignments. All room requests must be added to your reservation by the Disney Reservation Center (WDTC and/or CRO) at least 10 days prior to your arrival at WL. Faxes may be sent to DRC at 407-939-3463 or they may be called at 407-WDISNEY. This change now means WL and all the DVC resorts no longer accept room request faxes.

The official Disney policy on room preferences has always been that they need to be added directly to the reservation by DRC and contact with the resort was discouraged. In the past, that policy has not been strictly adhered to as the volume of the faxes received by the resort has been manageable. WL made this decision based on several factors which included the increase in the number of faxes received and the adverse reaction upon resort arrival of many people who could not have their room requests granted. Currently, each resort is free to adopt this policy or not as they see fit.

Disney's entire system of assigning rooms is currently undergoing a metamorphosis. Recently, the Disney Reservations Center (DRC), which is comprised of both the Walt Disney Travel Company (WDTC) and the Central Reservations Office (CRO), had a new reservations computer system put online. This program will mesh seamlessly with the forthcoming new property management computer system that the Disney resorts will be using. Once that resort program is online later in 2004, the need for faxing room requests will be unnecessary at all the resorts.

Until then, you may still follow the advice listed below. Keep in mind that all resorts do not operate exactly the same. Some will no longer accept faxed requests. Others still welcome them ... for now.
