Favorite Themed Hotel?

Well, I am a bit biased, but I simply ADORE the Boardwalk's theme.

I have vacationed at the Jersey Shore since 4th grade, and believe me, thats ALOT of summers! I love everything about the shore and hope some day to make it my home. So, naturally I gravitate to the Boardwalk.

But its the genuine feel of the shore and the authenticity that I love about it. That elephant statue on the mantle? Thats Lucy, the Margate Elephant, found in Margate NJ, just a bit over the city line from Atlantic City. You can go in Lucy. Shes over 100 years old and she was originally built as a tavern!

There are old photos of classic Atlantic City hotels in the lounge, some of which are still standing today, cleverly disguised as casinos. I stay at Ballys when I go to AC, and if you look closely, you will find a photo of the old Dennis Hotel, which is now part of the Ballys complex. The architecture of the outiside of the Boardwalk (front entrance) mimicks the architecture of the old hotels, as the back mimicks the motels we find at other shore points.

And the hallways? The rug is the 'boardwalk' and the walls are the grassy dunes you walk thru to get to the sea.

~*~sigh~*~

About all thats missing is that salt sea air :)

Tough choice. I just can't pick. Animal Kingdom Lodge is incredable with the Savanahs and beautiful lobby, but I love the Port Orleans Resorts as well. And the theming of the Boardwalk is great as well- the music, the antiques, the atmosphere. Wonderful!

While I haven't stayed at a bunch of different hotels like some of the people in this forum. I do try to visit a few every time I go down there and still I fall back the the Port Orleans FQ. I love the detail of the entire place all the way down to the brick streets. its a great place to stay and all of the people that work there are really friendly, as I am sure most of the hotel CM are elsewhere. Cheers for FQ:sohappy:

I'm with you!:sohappy: Ever since staying there I have fallen in love with the Boardwalk! Its so peaceful at night just walking along the boardwalk and hearing the boat whistle in the distance. I never knew about all the little neat details you mentioned. I saw the elephant but never knew it was modelled after a real one...very interesting! I'll have to look for those pictures next time we go back!!! :sohappy:

Wilderness Lodge is my absolute Favorite resort EVER. I have probably spent a good 8 hours in EVERY WDW "official" resort, doing walk thru's and staying at alot of them. Imo, Wilderness Lodge is a masterpeice. You walk into the resort, and you smell the wooden pines, and a fire burning. It is so convincing, that your actually at a lodge in North Carolina, and the cool thing is that the MK is less than 5 miles away. AKL, comes in at a close second. My least fav. is POR

I would agree, but WL beats CBR's theming just by a bit. I couldn't believe how authentic they made that place, architechure and setting alike. That place really makes me feel like I'm out NW. But that's on theming...*whispers* cbr is best overall...hehe.

I would have to say the WL...it reminds me of the Adirondak Mtns. in upstate NY. It looks like all the lodges from the Great Camps.

14 days to WDW and the WL.:sohappy:

Well, my favorite resort is Dixie Landings. It's quiet and peaceful.
Still, the most gorgeous one of them all would have to be the Beach Club. The pool and the relaxing atmosphere make it an absolutely perfect place to stay.

I would say there is a tie between the Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Wilderness Lodge. AK Lodge wins on theming alone, but WL has much better rooms (including DVC rooms!).

That's Tough

We used to love Caribbean Beach for a Moderate and then we started doing deluxe. We loved WL because that was our first Deluxe we stayed at. But since we stayed at the Polynesian, that is our first love. We've stayed there 4 years in a row. It's just beautiful. We've been to EVERY resort in the world to pick just one is hard but we tend to go more to the poly type or rustic type. Has anyone ever rented a cabin in the Fort Wilderness Campground? That's beautiful also. It's hard but if I HAD to pick only one, I guess it would have to be the Poly.

I too am a BIG Boardwalk fan. It was the first onsite hotel I stayed in on my first trip to WDW so will always be dear to me! But the atmosphere is very laid back whilst feeling very exclusive. I am hoping to go back there for my honeymoon but in the mean time I'm at Riverside in October *sighs heavily*

BoardWalk has a great theme, b/c its an old fashioned seaside boardwalk. And being I live on an island in NJ overlooking the boardwalk and ocean, they do a good job recreating the seaside village of yesteryear. I love nautical oceanic decor. That's my preference, even though I live in a quaint, old fashioned, exclusive beach community year-round.
*whispering to rokcandy* youre right, caribbean beach is the best overall

Major leauge Beach Club fan here - BUT..... I would have to say for theming it would be AKL of WL. Someone asked which resort makes you go WOW!! As much as I love BC (and YC and BWI) I would have to say that I don't WOW when I walk in - I might oh! or perhaps a slight ah!! but not WOW! Walk in to WL or AKL and you just go WOW!!!! Now that's just on theming, not taking anything else into consideration - that's a different thread!

Hey EpcotFan, I just wanted to say thanks for a rather awesome job on your Coronado website!! I really enjoyed it!!!
As far as best themed I havent stayed at any of the Deluxe resorts as of yet so I am unqualified to say.
Of the Moderates it is a toss up for me of the Riverside or the Coronado, If I want Southern laid back hospitality I go Riverside, If I want that awesome pool area and mexican flair I go Coronado!!!

It's very hard to name just one favorite, just like everything with Disney! :) But I can name three of my favorites---Wilderness Lodge, Boardwalk, and All-Star Movies! You really do have to give kudos to All-Star Movies as they are the best themed resort of that level any where in the world and one of the best even of all on Disney property.

Wilderness Lodge hands down! There is something so special about that place, that you just can't pin it down.We are drawn back to it time and time again. At the end of a LONG day in the parks, it feels all warm and cozy like coming home. But I am also SO glad to see the BWI up in the top responses, since we will be vacationing there for the first time in December, with a split stay between the WL. I think I will be in heaven with both!
