My mom and I are going on a trip soon and we have a free day that we want to go resort hopping and check them out. What are your favorite resorts to just visit and what kinds of things should we check out?

Well the two easiest areas to resort hop are the Magic Kingdom Resorts (CR, FW, GFR, Poly and WL) since they are all easily accessed by the on the Monorail and Bay Lake/ Seven Seas fleet of boats. The Crescent Lake Resorts (BCR, BWR, Dolphin, Swan, Yacht) are a great area to visit because they are close together making travel between them as easy as a short walk or boat ride.

Oh also you may want to consider a resort tour between all of the Skyliner resorts (AoA, CBR, POP, and Riviera)

I usually use one of several loops.

Poly/GF using the walkway (in some cases I'll include the Contemp on the monorail)
The Contemp/WL/FW loop using the boats.
SSR/POR/POFQ using the boats at DS as the hub.
Obviously the Boardwalk loop for YC/BC/Boardwalk and Swolphin.
I'll usually hit AKL and CSR as it's own loop - and drive.

Can't comment yet on the resorts attached to Skyliner (will do that in a couple of weeks).

Art of Animation has four themed courtyard areas set up that are fun that you can walk through. They have Finding Nemo, Lion KIng, Cars and trhe Little Mermaid. We walked through on our last trip to view the resort and was very glad we did. Lots of photo ops with oversized characters and scenery displays.
Fort Wilderness resort has the horse stables where you are free to walk through and view the horses and there are interesting displays around showing off items of interest and Disneys love of horses. You can arrange for horseback riding as well.
Another benefit to resort hopping is that you can find some different merchandise in the resort gift shops and unique food and snack offerings in the food courts that arent found elsewhere.

If you have the whole day you can do the monorail loop (including WL) as well as the Boardwalk resorts.
We usually stay at the Boardwalk resorts so we take time to walk through EPCOT, take monorail over to Magic Kingdom area and do that loop. We end with a boat ride from Contemporary over to Wilderness then back to monorail home through EPCOT.

If you have dinner at Fort Wilderness during Christmas time, slowly drive thru the campgrounds with your car. Multiple RVs are decked out with their own holiday lights. It is surely a sight to see and not many guests know how these RV guests can get so creative with holiday lights. It's one of those hidden secrets. 🎅🎆🎉⛄🌃
