There were so many good 60s and 70s cartoons still on back in the day, but I wanted to keep it to cartoons that started in the 80s. These are some of the cartoons that had quite an impact on pop culture.

As much nostalgia has I have for '80s cartoons, looking back I have to admit that the great majority of it was tripe.
The most popular series like Transformers, Care Bears, Thundercats, Jem, and GI-Joe really were little more than 30-minute long commercials designed to sell dolls and action figures, and there is precious little value, artistic, cultural, or otherwise, to be found there. The art was workmanlike and minimal (though better than most '70s TV cartoons) the "jokes" were rarely funny, and any the morality of the stories very rarely rose above simple maxims tacked on at the end to provide some sort of excuse for the mindlessness on display.

TV animation for children didn't really get "good" until Warner Brothers started pouring money into it in the early '90s.
