Trip Report Father's Day and The One Where Our Bubby Turns 30 aka Dude Trip

June 19-21st Trip:

Hubs and I's eldest turns 30 on June 20th. 🤯:arghh::eek: We threw a few destinations out to him (Vegas, New York, etc.) but he said he really just wanted to go to Disney. Its a fairly easy drive usually no more than 2 hours when 75 and 4 aren't crazy and who are we to argue with a birthday boy

So DISNEY it is!!

We bit the bullet and got our APs back (well the APs that are being offered) and booked rooms at Movies.

As the usual control freak...oops I mean trip planner I am leaving the "plans" to the boys. Sunday is Father's Day so that will be Hubs day to decide. Our APs are only good for weekdays so no parks. I think he mentioned pool time and maybe a monorail ride.

Monday Bday boy picked Magic Kingdom with a hop over to Epcot later in the day. Tuesday we reserved MGM sorry Hollywood Studios. We have yet to do Rise of the Resistance. It has been SUPER hard to not see any spoilers. No AK :(

Since I'm going with 2 men they will not do matching t-shirts  so I downloaded a design off Etsy and tweaked it for myself.

Not as good as some of @Darstarr 's from her TR.

I asked what the must do's would be this trip. I didn't know if either of them were interested in Guardians or not. We never had luck with Rise and the VirtualQueue thing so I didn't have much faith we would do any better with Guardians. But I guess I worried for nothing as I was told the must do's are Splash, Ratatouille and Rise. Oh, and drinking German beer...

WDWMagic Family my family has been navigating Disney for over 20 years now and I am being honest in telling all of you that Genie and Genie+ has me intimidated. I am almost to a point that we are just going to do standby for everything. 1) I don't want to be up at 7 booking things and 2) I don't want to pay an extra $45 a day. That is why I've been pouring over all of your TRs to see how well you all have navigated. Still feeling like it's just too much and just want to go and enjoy.

No dining reservations. The boys just want all counter service. Again, I just keep having to tell myself: dude trip...

Quick question to anyone who has been there....is Gideon's Bakeshop worth it? I've def been eyeing the Peanut Butter cookie at MK and not sure the dudes will wait in line at Gideon's.

Thanks for letting me share!!

I have a shirt with this design, well very similar on the same exact color shirt, hah! I made mine 4 years ago so it's def peeled some, but I still wear it around. I still have the file, so I need to make me a new one.
I usually try to remake the design myself somehow but I was lazy this time and just bought it off Etsy. Been LOVING reading your report!
Looking forward to hearing about this!
Thanks @fractal! Hoping to maybe start this weekend. End of Fiscal Year here at work so unfortunately super busy. Hate when the job gets in the way LOL Looking forward to your report!!

I use to design all of my shirts myself, but over the years I got lazy and have also just been purchasing files from Etsy. For only a few dollars, it's just easier and quicker!

Thanks!

Saturday, June 18th

Saturday night we went over to friend’s house to play cards. Since they would be watching our miniature schnauzer Belle, we took her along so she could get the lay of the land. I told Hubs she probably needed a vacation from us LOL. Since our friends only live 3 blocks away from us and have keys to our house, we made arrangements for them to pick Belle up from our house Sunday hoping to limit separation anxiety (mostly my husband’s) Even though Hubs worried about her our whole trip she had a blast staying with them:

As we were leaving, they asked what time we planned to leave Sunday. I told them I’d love to be on the road by 11. Hubs scoffed at that and said there was no way she’ll be ready before noon…..’ya wanna bet??!!

Sunday, June 19th Arrival Day and Father’s Day

Does anyone sleep well the night before a Disney trip??!! Uh NO! We were all up early. And who wasn’t packed? Well that definitely was Hubs! I’m sorry to those who I may offend with my next statement….he packs like a woman!🤣;) He’s got to have a specific outfit for every event that MIGHT happen. Oye Vay! I guess my tomboy does me well sometimes. Just give me a couple of shorts, tshirts, swimsuit, pajamas and under things and I’m ready to go! 9 times out of 10 for Disney trips I don’t take makeup. Why…it’s just going to sweat off! Don’t get me started on his shoe selection process …..needless to say I was ready by 8:30 am. We were in the car and headed north by 9:30 am. Hubs mentioned wanting to stop by the outlet mall we pass but as we were on the way I looked and they didn’t open until 11. Sorry, I know it’s Father’s Day but not waiting on outlet mall to open….

Here by 10:21 am

Here by 11:14 am (14 minutes after outlet mall would have opened)

And finally here 11:29 am
PXL_20220619_152917508.jpg

As I mentioned in Pre-trip it was the Boys’ weekend. What we were doing was going to be their decisions. Our room wasn’t ready and Hubs had said all along while planning he wanted to go to the pool. Let’s get changed for pool….Hubs balked. Then we just stood around…I finally said Arcade or Disney Springs. Hubs wouldn’t make decision so Bubby picked the Springs. Off on a bus we went.

Ate at the Polite Pig (I’m terrible about remembering food pics). Split a pitcher of vodka lemonade, Slider trio, BBQ meatballs and bourbon chocolate chip cookie. It was our first visit and definitely NOT the last. Soooo good!

and went in a few stores. Stopped for another drink at the Lava Lounge but they were full so sat at the bar inside Rainforest

a Panama Punch, Dragonberry Mule, Pina Colada and Bud Light later we headed back to resort almost enjoying Shirley Status
PXL_20220619_185905654.jpg

but driver waited 2 more minutes and a couple got on with us. Now our whole time at the Springs I kept checking my app looking for our room number. It was 3:30 and still nothing. I told the boys to hang back I was going to inquire at the desk about our room. They joked that I should behave myself they didn’t have enough for bail money. Haha…I can be nice!

Me at desk…we haven’t received our room number yet.

Desk person: Let me look into that for you….looks at computer…says to me I need to go to the back for a minute, I’ll be right back

Me: panic sets in….

Desk person comes back: We are not really sure when your room will be ready. I can offer you a Magical Upgrade if you like

Me: What would that Upgrade be?

Desk person: If you wouldn’t mind switching resorts there is a room ready at Coronado Springs

Me: UH YES PLEASE

Now, they boys had been watching from afar and watched my face this whole time. I was giving them thumbs up and smiling but they had no idea why. I texted them and said don’t get too comfortable we are switching resorts.

We knew we wanted to hit up a guest services window before we went to MK tomorrow to avoid lines. Bubby didn’t click a button when he bought his AP so he still had to show he was a FL resident. We decided we would go ahead and head to MK windows then head over to Polynesian for some food and libation. Walked right up to guest services window YAY! Took a lovely boat ride over to Poly. Sorry, no Korean BBQ chicken wings, pulled pork nacho or thai coconut meatball pics. Sat outside and watched Hercules and waited for fireworks.

Once fireworks were over headed back to resort via our obligatory monorail ride to MK bus stops then off to CS to rest up for our MK/Epcot day.

I'm here! Now that we are back and settled in I can catch up with everyone else's trips!! How cool that you got upgraded to Coronado. That is one of the resorts we've never stayed at.

YAY! Just got caught up on your report. Had to laugh at Fishlips and I think we need a Yum reaction emoji. That food looked delish!

Monday, June 20th – Let the 30th Birthday Celebration begin!

What do you do for a 30th Birthday?
PXL_20220620_120805939.jpg

SHOTS!!! This is what we started the day with. VERY good! I definitely could have had more than one! We then followed with a more demure drink of boring old coffee.
PXL_20220620_122051466.jpg

We took our old mugs again and they activated them for free. Is this a thing now or have we just gotten lucky both times this has happened for us??

We weren’t in a super huge hurry. Per Birthday Boy request we only had Splash on the Magic Kingdom must do list today. Any other rides were just bonuses. Since we have AP’s back, we had the attitude what we didn’t get done this time we could do on a future visit. No Lightning Lanes…we were going to gut out whatever times might be listed.

According to the info on my pics we were walking down Main Street at about 9:30
PXL_20220620_132254899.jpg

Went right to Splash. It is always fun to listen to conversations in line. We were in front of a dad and his sons. The boys were hilarious. They were a font of knowledge about all things Splash, almost Sheldon Cooperish. They made our short wait very enjoyable.
PXL_20220620_140459865.jpg

We circled back to Adventureland and went on a voyage with our favorite Pirates. We had front row. I can never remember where camera is so Bubby was so very thoughtful and showed me…..
Screenshot_20220629-132202.png

After Pirates we cut through back to Frontierland. The shooting gallery was always the boys’ favorite. We always had to have quarters with us when we went to MK. How very surprised we were that you shoot for free now. They couldn’t pass it up
PXL_20220620_145717177.jpg

In our Disney withdrawals Bubby and I had been watching a crap ton of YouTube videos about the parks. We of course stumbled upon DFB videos. I knew I wanted one of Nutella waffle concoctions from Sleepy Hollow and the Peanut Butter Cookie Pie from the Confectionary (which we picked up on our way out of the park). Bubby wanted the If You Had Wings chicken tenders from the Lunching Pad. It was about 11 by this time so perfect for a snack.
PXL_20220620_152345343.jpg

Again, sorry no pics of the tenders or the cookie and you get a half eaten waffle. I think I found my new favorite Disney snack! Sooo good! After we were fully snacked, we jumped in line for Space. Even though it was supposed to be 90 minutes we only waited 45.

Knowing we were going to be hitting up Epcot this evening we went ahead and headed back to CS. I think we all ended up napping at some point.
