FASTPASS test for 'Celebrate A Dream Come True' parade

Yes! All of these! I hate having to get a spot to watch a parade or fireworks show an hour before they start just so I don't have to put my kids on my shoulder the entire time. I would love to pick up a pass for a preferred viewing area and just show up 15 minutes before.

For WoC, if you aren't waiting to get in to the preferred viewing area prior to your Fast Pass window opening, you're still not going to get the best viewing spot. I would imagine it would be the same for FP for a Parade...you'll probably get a call back time well before the parade starts (I'm assuming 30 mins or so). So I doubt you will be able to "just show up 15 minutes before". You're still going to be waiting somewhere, just not on the curb.

I hate the idea of getting a FP to view a parade (or night time spectacular for that matter). We usually decide to catch those shows on a whim... But then again we're not your average visitors.

They should just remove Fastpass at TSM. The line moves so much quicker out at California Adventure without it.

Fastpass at TSM is not the issue. The issue is a lack of family rides at Hollywood Studios. California Adventure gets 65-70% of the attendance that Hollywood Studios gets and the wait times for Toy Story are still 45 minutes or longer all day. The ride is also a 10-15 minute walk from the entrance of the park instead of less than 5 like it is at Hollywood Studios.

In my mind, any attraction that regularly has waits over 40 minutes should utilize Fastpass.

I personally like the idea. There have been many a time we get to the parade early and stake out our curbside viewing area only to have a group that does not understand proper etiquette to try to plop their kids or themselves right down in front, or squeeze in. Its always gratifying when the CM comes over and tells them to move it.

I agree that people showing up at the last minute to jump in front of my prime spot that I came 45 minutes early to get is annoying. I don't mind the kids. I would let them in any way since they wouldn't be able to see anything at all if I didn't but adults need to remain at the back. You want a prime spot?! Come early. I usually don't make too big a deal about this because I don't want to get too upset during my vacation but it does stink.

Maybe this means they will be bringing back Spectro, knowing how many people are wanting it back?????? I'd love that of course!

Anyways, I don't mind this really. Sounds fine to me. We'll see how this plays out..

I think the people that don't like this feel its further removing the spontanaity of disney. Make ADRs for bfast, lunch and dinner, plan where to rush to get a fastpass, get fastpass to meet characters at 2:00PM. Grab fast pass to see parade at 3:00PM, etc.

AMEN to that!!!!!!!!!!!

In a perfect world, yes, attractions with 40 minute waits or more should utilize Fastpass. However, in a situation like Hollywood Studios, where there aren't many family attractions to begin with, I think Fastpass makes the problem worse. More specifically, it makes it worse for those that aren't there first thing in the morning to grab those precious passes and are forced to choose between a 2 hour wait or not riding at all. In my experience, the line at California Adventure moved at a much more steady pace than the standby line at DHS and, despite having a line that extended past the queue for most of the day, never really took the amount of time posted.

This is, of course, just from my own personal experience. We were able to ride TSM multiple times despite a full queue at DCA. I would never attempt such a thing in the standby line at DHS. I'm sure others have had different experiences.

I think there are upsides and downsides to this idea:

Upsides: It would guarantee you a spot, so no stroller families coming and attempting to plop themselves in your hard earned parade spot. You wouldn't have to worry about planning your whole day around when you had to go wait for the parade. Its kind of like the Mickey fastapasses: just a guarantee that you'll get to do something that's high on your priority list.

Downsides: It kind of takes the sport out of it. If you really want a good spot, I think you have to work for it. Sit in the hot sun. Camp out beforehand. Some of my best Disney memories were waiting for parades, just sitting and talking with my family, eating ice cream, people watching. It just seems unnecessary.

If they are going to have this system, they should probably put limits on it, like if you get a fastpass you have to show up at least 30 minutes beforehand or your spot is fair game. Limit the location of fastpass seating.
I don't know.

If this was instituted, I do think that it should be limited to the 3 o' clock parade. Night parade = Limitless spot choosing :p

They should just eliminate the stand-by queue. This is the only attraction in WDW that regularly runs out of fastpasses before 12 even in the offseason. I'm all about being spontaneous at WDW, but this ride has a serious problem and needs to addressed. I mean think about, if they can figure out a way to keep TSM fastpass return times within 45-60 minutes throughout the entire day then I would be all for it. Of course this would mean you wouldn't be able to ride the last hour the park was open, but you can't ever find a line less than 60 minutes anytime throughout the day anyway. I really think it's something they have thought about.

Disneyland has fastpasses for WoC, right? So why is this so shocking/upsetting for people?

Because they have been conditioned to have certain responses to Disney words/concepts no matter what the situation or specifics.

FASTPASS = NOO!! OVER USED!

Dining Plan = HAS RUINED EVERYTHING ABOUT EATING AT WDW! (Yet, they still want those ressies...)

Joe Rhode = GOD!

Etc.

I'm pretty sure Disney put feelers out for this move a short time ago on the Disney Parks blog / facebook asking if you would like a dedicated viewing area with a fastpass / special ticket and a fair number did.

I don't think the idea is a bad idea at all. It will be of particular use to one-time visitors who want to guarantee a good spot for some special pictures of parades and fireworks.
