Fastpass return time

So, let's be honest here. How long was it before you knew that you didn't have to return to the ride/show at that certain hour printed on the fastpass ticket? I'm not ashamed to say that on our first trip in 08, I had no idea that you could come back anytime after the first hour printed on the fastpass. Boy did I feel like a dummy last year when I found out.

The FP return time is a guideline which the CMs should observe, but rarely do. If you get turned away for arriving outside your return time - don't be surprised

I would say that up until a couple of years ago, I thought the fastpass return time was a black and white issue. I thought you had no choice but to return during the alloted time. :lookaroun Oops.

Approx 4 out 5 fastpasses we get, we use use during the hour printed on the fastpass, but I'd be lying if I told you we don't occasionally redeem them later.

It just normally works out for us to go back during the hour printed on the fastpass, but it is nice to know that we don't have to rearrange the afternoon/evening simply because we'd like to use our fastpasses.

On our first trip, I thought you had to be there on around the exact time when they instructed you that you could come back. Now, I return whenever that day (of course after the time allows me on when I can redeem the FPs).

Since I generally go in the off-season, I try to adhere to the return window, but don't fret if I wait until longer, since it won't adversely affect a ride with a five minute wait. When I was at Disneyland last week, I only needed FPs for Space Mountain (all my other favs had single rider lines) and did my best to stick to the return window.

You can arrive late, but as Captain Hook pointed out, you do so at your own risk if the CM rejects your FP. Getting a FP first thing in the morning and using it at night would certainly be risky.

I always went during the time on the FP until this past trip in December. We got a FP during a time when we would be eating dinner. A CM told us it was OK and they usually are honored anytime after the time on the FP. It was good to know, but I can definately understand that they have the right to turn you away- especially during peak times at the parks.

I have asked CMs a couple of times. The answer we always get is that they don't expire. I never worry about being late. It's never even remotely been an issue.

Disney doesn't seem to be concerned about it. So I'm sure not going to be.

Agreed! On our last trip in February, we just started collecting fast passes throughout the day as available, so that we could ride later in the day when more convenient for us. When we asked, we got the same response in regards to the fastpasses not expiring.

Yeah on this last trip in December I would spend the first half of the day collecting fastpasses and we'd spend the other half using them. Never got turned away.

This is one of the main reasons why FP has become a problem for the stand-by queue. If CMs were to strictly adhere to the time posted on the FP then the stand by line would work efficiantly, but they can't. A few reasons why they are relaxed on the rule is because of dining reservations, weather issues (on some rides) and ride downtime.

That's whats up. The way I look at it is you're on vacation. If the CMs and disney have no problem with it, go when its best for you. And if they ever begin to have a problem with, go to guest relations.

We have always returned within the time on the fastpass. If for some reason we can't we would give them to someone else.

It's what we do for TSMM. I'll go get FP's when the park opens and then go grab more at the time given to us for more FP's. If they aren't totally out by the time our next window for more FP's is up I'll grab a third set. Then we'll use them later on in the day, sometimes back to back.

Actually, we do this with other rides too but mostly for TSMM so it gives us a chance to do all of the other stuff first.

In 2000 on Kilimanjaro Safaris. We were late due to Dinosaur breaking down and they took out expired ones telling us they do not expire that day. Since then, I'm not sure I've ever been on time for a Fast Pass.

And do what - Explain that you're trying to cheat the system and a CM won't let you

Of course not, silly. You make up a story about something that happened that was totally out of your control that prevented you from making it back to your return time. D'uh. :hammer:

Of course, this isn't really an issue since no cast member will ever turn you away for using an expired FP on the same day you got it. Heck, you have a slim shot at using a FP from another day!
