Going in May - booked FP for Slinky Dog & TOT. Selected fantasmic for 3rd FP but not sure what we get for this? Is it some kind of guaranteed seating so that we don’t have arrive too early?

yes it is guaranteed seating until 15 minutes before the show. however, may is predicted to be low crowd levels and you may want to take your chances standing in line. off season most everyone gets in, even if you arrive later than the masses. or use your FP for something else and try to get one for fantasmic later in the day
just my humble opinion

Yeah I wouldn’t get it, especially for F! where every seat in the house is good. Plus, you’d kind of be sitting there longer on those bleachers waiting for the show to start if you think about it that way!

We did the dining package last time we went. Had lunch at Momma Melrose, and got a 'fast pass' for the center section for the show.. If you are already going to be eating a table service meal at the park.. it is probably a better option than wasting a FP+ on it.
I was just about do suggest this. I booked a package meal like this for Fantasmic and Rivers of Light at AK. I wasn't able to do the Fantasmic meal (winter storms delayed our plane by quite a but and we realized th3 night before we would never make the reservation), but I did go to ROL. You don't waste a fastpass and don't have to wait in any lines for a show you may or may not like. The only downside is your eating choices get a lot more limited, as well as the times you can eat. I believe for both packages you had to have a lunch reservation.
Edit- It should also be noted that depending on if you're on a dining plan, you may be losing out on food. The deluxe dining plan comes with an appetizer, entree, and dessert plus a drink, but last so check the package only comes with a drink, entree, and dessert. The deluxe dining plan was honestly too much food anyway, so you probably won't miss the lost course, but it's another thing to consider.

Getting it as part of the dinner package or as an extra FP after you've used your first three is ideal. That said, if you rope drop Sunset Boulevard, you don't need FP for ToT (or RRC) if you don't mind doing it in the morning.

I'll be the third to suggest a meal package. I've done it for Fantasmic and Rivers of Light - I've done lunch with the show, but dinner works, too. It's a relatively minor additional fee, and it frees up the FP for something else. Plus, you aren't held hostage by having your third FP be late in the day.

I'd think about it if I was going during one of the peak times of the year (like Christmas week), and Fantasmic was a must do. I've had fast passes and done the walk up. I get there about 30-45 minutes early no matter what. I've sat in nearly the same seat the last four times I've been. I don't think having the fast pass makes a big difference. IMO, being closer to the stage is more important than being centered on the stage. I'd get as close to the front as you can.

Getting the dinner package works best. I'd never waste a valuable FP+ on Fantasmic. A FP+ for an attraction holds more value in getting me through the long lines that exist now IMHO.

Thanks all for your helpful responses. Usually we wouldn’t but there are 7 of us so can’t be bothered to change them now! We got slinky and TOT so they were the main 2 we really wanted anyway.

Can I ask - what seating area are you placed when you have a FP for fantasmic? I don’t want the water spray in my face so want to avoid that!

This definitely.
