Fast Pass Plus for Disneyland Resort

I wonder if it's because Autopia lost its Fastpass.

I have now heard that is the reason why. Take this with a grain of salt but the unconfirmed rumor is the Autopia FP is down and may never come back due to what is going on at Innoventions. Presumably any meet and greet or whatever goes in there will take those FP machines.

The FP option for Buzz is apparently back. Disneyland Today tweeted it was back.

Whoa, what? So does Star Tours not have FP anymore or are they split up half-half or something? Would be crazy for Buzz to have it and not Star Tours given that Buzz is an omnimover with a constantly moving line.

Edit: Aha -- the last two Star Tours machines have been converted for Buzz. Cool!

What are the predictions for the replacement?

I'm torn on FP vs FP+. I love how carefree the original FP is but there are some benefits to FP+ I would love seeing at DL. I drive down from Vegas and some days don't get to the park until after 4 in the afternoon, by then Space Mtn FP are often for 10pm or later, RSR FP are long gone, WoC FP are often gone, and now F! FP are often gone. I'm sure many locals that go after work run into the same problem. I spend 2 nights/3 days so if I can't get into a show the first night I miss it that trip. FP+ does require a bit more planning but it can be really nice knowing you already have a spot reserved for a nighttime show or your favorite ride as you're driving to the park.

I would rather there be no Fastpass.

I wanted to hate FP+, I really did. Honestly though, the only real killer for me the whole time I was at WDW was the spotty cell/wifi service. If you are going to rely on an app for management of your Fastpasses, you best make damn sure you have the infrastructure to support it.

But that said, even if you have bad cell service or don't have or want to use a smartphone in the parks, there are still physical kiosks you can use to manage all of that.

To me, the pros far outweighed the cons, when I realized I didn't have that crazy pressure to get to the park before the crowds and otherwise risk all the FPs being gone for the day.

Are there kinks to work out still? Sure, of course. And a busy day is still going to be a busy day no matter what. But knowing you are least guaranteed an E ticket or two compared to knowing you will probably have to settle for whatever you're willing to wait for is pretty awesome in my book.

After spending a 14 hour day at Disneyland Park, my conclusion is that it would benefit from FP+ (no need for MagicBands) even more than MK. Criss-crossing DL to get FPs and then back to use them is much harder at Disneyland on any day that is even a bit crowded, because of the really narrow walkways. Even worse at night, when half those walkways are closed or one-way due to crowd management for F! and Paint the Night. Eliminating the need to crisis-cross and backtrack would be good. Add to that the mass amount of locals who might not want/need to come at park opening except for the desire to ride RSR or Space Mountain with FP at a reasonable hour, and booking three FPs before leaving home sounds brilliant.

Of course, many of those locals don't decide whether to hit the parks on a given day until shortly before. No problem...just make the FP+ booking window 2 days ahead instead of 60 days. Do we need FP+ for as many things as at MK...no. Add a couple to the current roster (Buzz, new Innoventions attraction, maybe Pirates) and there will be enough to go around. FP+, implemented intelligently, will benefit Disneyland Park a great deal, I believe.

I'd love if it was same day only. Just open up the reservations 15 minutes early when they start letting guest queue on main street. That way they aren't gone days or weeks before someone's spontaneous trip.

This. And let hotel guests book 1 or 2 in advance as a perk. There are so few hotel guests it will make a nice selling point without disrupting ops for everyone else.

I agree with this. It'll add an incentive to staying at the hotels, while keeping the process more spontaneous for most guests. Even if DL hotel guests book a couple rides in advance, it's not like WDW and people will still get FP's for the rides they want.

Add in the fact that we won't have to run all over the park anymore and I would consider it a win. Even if you don't have a smartphone, you can go to a kiosk wherever you are instead of having to run across the whole park. With more guests being locals, they will probably be faster at the kiosks than WDW guests thus the lines won't be as big of a deal. Basically, less running around is my point, haha.
