The IP days? Universal always revolved around IPs. The original attraction was Earthquake, an IP attraction based on a movie of the same name. It was changed into the "original" Disaster years later... which someone then decided needed to be a movie (San Andreas.)

Yeah that comment made 0 sense. That park was always IPs seeing as the tag line is ride the movies.

Let me clarify, before the licensing grab of IP's that are not already owned by the parent company, days....

Even the original DL was IP driven at times but all were originally Disney owned.

Anyways, Disaster was a family favorite and I'm heavily biased ; (

I am the exact opposite. I've been going to universal since I was young and at 28 now Disaster was just awful. We go to universal multiple times a year and I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I have rode it or even wanted to.

I think Disaster is the best "studio" (attraction/show about making movies) attraction I have ever encountered. I really think it was terrific A+ interactive type of attraction you're only going to get at a top theme park. I mean it wasn't the most thrilling but it was unique and a real crowd pleaser ... I thought the preshow with Walken was great.. and Lonnie has always been great everytime I've been... I know nothing of the F&F ride in Hollywood and I'm sure F&F has potential to be "cool" but is it going to be as unique, funny, and as much as an experience as Disaster was? I doubt it.

Does anyone know what became of the 'models' that were displayed in the original preshow?

Same here, the interaction was definitely the best part of it. I live in Scotland but have been going to universal ever since I was a very young child (pre school ages) and I'm 17 now, so I had the chance to ride it as Disaster and also Earthquake. Disaster was by far the better attraction not only due to the incredible audience participation but the holy-ness that is holo Walken. Last time i went to USF I only went on it once but only due to line times and family preferences. Luckily I was picked for the guy in the explosion so I'll always remember disaster with that one time i rode it. I'm definitely gonna miss it so F+F better be worth the loss of such a classic

I went to USH in the summer but when I did the tram tour Kong was broken and FF wasn't finished yet, so skull island and ff are going to be completely new to me. Is FF really that bad? I just pray that it's an actual ride and not another simulator. I love simulators, spiderman and transformers are some of my favorite rides ever but it's beginning to become over saturated.
