Fantasmic: DL vs. WDW

Over on Youtube there is a constant battle of which version of Fantasmic is better. Personally, I've only seen the WDW version in person, so I can only judge that one. But I have seen the DL one online. I think they're different, but that's a good thing, because you need variety. And neither one is actually better, but unique.

So, I have a question for those of you that have seen both, do you think one is better or do you think they're both good while being different?

Just curious and not trying to start a fight.

I like DL's better. I love the Peter Pan segment...much better then the Pocahontas. I also like the fact that it pops up on TSI.

I give the Studios' version of it props for having its own amphitheater, affording good views (and seats) for a lot of people. But Disneyland's show is better in performance, intimacy, and creativity. It's truly amazing to watch an area that during the day is an island to play on, a river to float upon, and a walkway to get to attractions be converted into a theater for a huge show. That's a show unto itself, if you have the time to sit and watch.
Then, when the show actually begins, you've got Pinocchio instead of endless mist screens, the cast of Peter Pan on the Columbia being followed by the crocodile instead of Pocahontas on the island (and more mist screens), and a finale on the Mark Twain instead of a puny-looking steamship. Disneyland's just feels grander to me, yet as I said, also intimate.

I've only seen DL's version on youtube, but just sitting by the river seems too ghetto for me  I prefer having the ampitheater, yes it might not have as much room, for bigger boats, but that doesn't hurt me any. I also dont like DL's because it's all on Huck Finn's Island (I think??). That's pretty ghetto as well. I do prefer DL's peter pan scene over pocahontas, but that wouldn't make me want change my preference. If I had to choose, of course, i'd still choose WDW.

Your post is ghetto.

No but seriously, what's up with calling DL's Fantasmic ghetto? Are you serious..? And you've only seen it on YouTube? That automatically renders your opinion useless. Don't judge it until you've seen it in person.

Ghetto? I don't agree. It really very cool to have this show happen where you wouldn't expect it. I too think DL is much better. The Mark Twain at the end and the Peter Pan sequence can't be beat. I loath the Pocahontas sequence and the smaller STEAMBOAT BILL JR boat at the end of WDWs. I do however LOVE the amphitheater at WDW.

wow, a little harsh? Anyways, for panhead- To have it on TS island might seem "ghetto" but it's actually really cool seeing something as one thing during the day, and then transform into Fant at night. I think it really adds to the experience.

I've seen both in person, and would say DL wins out over WDW, but they both have their merits, and are both good shows by themselves. I like how things are so much closer at DL, it seems more real and intense. I also think that the Peter Pan sequence and the Pocahontas sequence are in two separate ball parks and can't even be compared, so that's a big loss for WDWs.

I've only ever seen the Studios version. The DL version sounds awesome tho... never been the hugest Pocahontas fan. I'd love to see Pan strut his stuff on a ship, sounds great.

But hey, as long as it's got Mickey doing the whole dragon thing, and the sorceror jig at the end, bah, I get goosebumps thinking about it. It's one of those "Reduced to child mode" moments where you're back infront of your tv watching Fantasia.

What a coincidence. I was just sitting here studying for my Business Law exam and I was listening to the DL version for the first time. I only saw brief moments, but what I saw beats DHS' version hands down. All the different things make it that much better.

It's just an opinion :animwink:

I like Disneyland's better but I really wish they had a stadium. It's such a pain in the neck to sit down two hours before, and then have people stand in front of you and block your view.

I have seen both and prefer DL's as some one else said it is more intimate and the Peter Pan sequence can't be beat. Awhile ago I watch a video on youtube that had both versions going side by side. I think I got the link from these boards maybe someelse remembers seeing it. It was cool to see the differences.

So far I seem to be the only one who prefers the DHS version.

While Steamboat Willie is smaller than the Columbia I think it is so cool to see Black & White Mickey on it! It's so fitting to have a nod to not only the world's first Mickey cartoon, but the first cartoon with sound. Instead of thinking of it as smaller than the Columbia, I've always just considered it built to Mickey's scale. (Bigger is not always better)

Also I prefer the scale of Fantasmic Mt. to TSI in DLR. The finale is so much more impressive looking up at Mickey towering above you.

...I do agree that the Pocahontas sequence is very random.

I've seen both as well. It's diffucult to really say which is better. Since I am so used to seeing WDW's version, DL's version seemed very good because it was different and the boats were larger, plus it used the island. But WDW's has seating and unrestricted views unlike at DL where you stand and are lucky if you don't have people in front of you. So I'm torn between the two but both are different so it's too hard to pick one. I just see them as different experiences entirely.
