Fantasia Scene in Great Movie Ride

Here's a question: Has the scene from Fantasia always been in the Great Movie Ride? The reason I am wondering this is because of what I read on the description of the ride from this web site. I am pretty sure that the scene came right before Wizard of Oz, and right after Casablanca. In the ride description, he never mentioned Mickey or the Fantasia scene, but instead describes a tornado:

"Next stop, Munchkinland. Swirling winds between scenes suggest a tornado. As they pass into the scene, guests see the winds' results: two legs stick out from below a house."

So, was there a time when the Fantasia scene represented a tornado, and didn't have Mickey in it?

Mickey was always there from what I can remember. Maybe he just meant that the fantasia scene marks a transition since Mickey is whipping up a storm of sorts, or maybe he just skipped over that part.

I agree...I thought at one time they PLANNED on it being a tornado scene or some other scene but then built it with Fantasia.

At one time, there was indeed supposed to be the tornado scene from the Wizard of Oz in that room. In fact, the shape of the screen, as well as the circular shape of the room, reflects this. That is also the reason why there are fans blowing on you. For some reason plans fell through, and they quickly through in the Sorcerer's Apprentice as a replacement.

They could not gain the rights to the tornado scene. Even though MGM has their name on the park, they were picky in what could be represented in TGMR. The rights to the famous tornado fell through and was quickly, (and I mean quickly, where you now see Mickey was originally where the video of the tornado would play) changed to Fantasia. Resulting in a very jerky transition to Oz.
