Family Style Meals question

I have a 4 yr old and 6 yr old that are very very picky eaters. Are there seperate children menus at these restuarants that I can order off of for them if they don't like what is being served? They are pretty much just chicken nuggets/strips, spaghetti, mac and cheese(and picky about the kind), and hot dog eaters so that really limits us adults!

Thank you, Melanie

It depends on where you are eating. Click here for menus.

For example, the Liberty Tree Tavern in the MK does not have a children's menu at their family style dinner, but the Garden Grill in Epcot does.

Most Disney eateries serve exactly what you mentioned above on their childrens menu or on the kids buffet. We have a picky eater as well. Now to be honest and not intending to cause a stir, the combination of limited options and a hungry child will cure a picky eater....

But some places don't have the extra offerings...The LTT has no children's menu at dinner, only at lunch. The OP was asking about the family style meals not buffets, unless she means them to be the same thing.

Ahh....excellent point. But do I recall Mac and Cheese being on the menu for Liberty Tree?

They do not have a childrens menu for dinner at Liberty Tavern, but they did have mac and cheese as part of the menu. At the Garden Grill, they did have a childrens menu with the typical things....chicken strips, fries, and mac and cheese. Those are the only two family style places we have eaten at.
One of my kids is the same way! It does not matter how hungry he is....he will not eat it if he does not like it....he would rather starve. And he is VERY picky. It can be a real problem when we travel. He eats very healthy at home, but at WDW he pretty much lives off of chicken and french fries!

I don't want to hijack this trhead, becasue it's a good question, but has anyone ever figured out how kids get hooked on chicken fingers???

I started laughing when I read this post becasue my nieces and nephews are impossible to eat out with unless the menu has chicken fingers on it! I'm not even sure how they came to love them so much!!

Something about a fried hunk of chicken breast that casts a spell on them, making them think it's the only food they can order off the menu! I mean...I know kids who actually associate dining out with chicken fingers! Instead of asking them if they would like to go out for dinner, you might as well just asl them if they are in the mood for chicken fingers!

Is there VOODOO in the blue cheese???

We are so lucky. I guess it starts with eating out all the time.Which we or his family do not. When you live in a small town there is not an option for a drive up, nor do they heat unhealthy foods like they serve at Disney for kids. My grandson eats only good foods and does not like mac and cheese hates chicken fingers for that matter anything fried. His favorite thing is salad, grilled chicken, baked potatoes, all veggies even brocolli. I think we are going to have a hard time at the places that only have chicken fingers, hot dogs, mac and cheese.. He simply won't eat any of that. But we are going to mostly family style places, Boma O'Hanas,Whispering canyon, Trails End, Chef Mickeys and San Angel, we hope they will let him eat those things from the buffett or the skillets with us and not the childrens menu. He loves hot sauce the hotter the better He is only 4 people. Are we lucky or what...

Buffets and family style are 2 different things. 'Ohana is family style in that they bring platters to you and you eat what you want (same with LTT and Garden Grill) 'Ohana and LTT have no kid's menu just the family style meal.

Boma, Trail's End, Chef Mickey's are buffets and anybody can take anything they want from the kid's side or the regular food. I've seen 6 ft plus guys on their knees taking mac 'n cheese from the kid's side of the buffets.

Whispering Canyon Cafe skillets are yummy, but again, they bring the food to you and you can have more of whatever you want. They have a very limited kid's menu, but you can order from the regular menu also as not everyone has to have the skillet meals. San Angel has a limited kid's menu too, but again you can order from the regular menu if need be.

You could choose to do the buffet meals -- that way there would be plenty for them to choose from. There are chicken nuggets & mac & cheese on just about every buffet that I have seen at WDW.

Thanks tigsmom again... I think or hope at least that I picked some fun places to eat at for our first trip. i was hoping he could eat the things we ate off the buffets and or the skillets etc, he will like those foods. Like I said, we are so lucky he liokes real food.. ha ha. Not to put down the mac and chicken hotg dogs. But I truly believe it is what you start them out in life on that that will be only what they eat. We all just never ate that way at home or otherwise out. It is so funny to go to arestaurant and the waiter or waitress ask him if he wants a hot dog or grilled cheese, and he has said since he could talk, do you have sawid, salad. Or just chips and sots saus. Thats what it sounds like. He loves hot sauce he will dip carrots etc into it. Only 17 more days until we go and I cannot stand it. I am so afraid it will pass so quickly and we will have this big empty hole in us on the way back home, waiting to go in Dec next year is a long time away. Was even thinking of going to Disneyland in May to break the year up and be there in cooler weather not like Florida hot and humid...

Anytime.

My kids used to be like that, but as they got older (read teenagers :lookaroun ) they have become very picky. I am lucky in that we have always taken them to "real restaurants" so they will eat salads, fish, steaks, etc. Give them a choice though and its chicken fingers and fries. :brick:

Same here. Even my girls age 30 and 25 never got that kind of stuff when they were little. We didn't go out to eat much. But back then there were not many restaurants to take them to Not like it is now one on every corner. We lived in small towns in new Mexico and fast food was not heard of except one and one only in Albuq a Mc Donalds that said now served over 100 boy was that long agao. People just didnt have money to go out to eat like they do now. My grandson only gets MCDonlads maybe once a week for the prize as he says not really much on the fries but will eat all the burger. He opnly likes juice so safe there as well. He eats fish, steaks as well. We are so lucky as well..

We also have a very picky eater.....I feel for you!

LTT is a hit with him because he likes the rolls and mac and cheese. No other menu items available besides what is offered.

O'Hama's is Family Style but they also have other items available. You can ask your server.....We ate there and my son said he didn't like the food, so our wonderful server asked him what he wanted.....he wanted a grilled cheese. So, a few minutes later a double decker grilled cheese with fries came out for him....he was so excited! Then, our other son eyed the fries and wanted some, presto, big plate for him as well! Plus, they only charged us for the sandwhich, saying the extra fries were part of the feast, and we shouldn't have to pay the full feast price when all he wanted was a grilled cheese....what a great experience!

At Graden Grill he was again pouting (this was a rough trip) and the chef came out. Again, he wanted a grilled cheese. While they didn't have loaf bread, the chef made him special grilled cheese using the rolls....worked for him!

So, it pays to ask. Most places are willing to work with you to the extent of their supply in the kitchen.

Have a gtreat trip!
