Family of 5, three teenage boys resort help

We go to Disney every year, having a 22 year old autistic son whose "girlfriend" is Minnie Mouse (Animal Kingdom Minnie). We have gone since he was 8. We have done Allstars (2 room adjoining) and Riverside using Murphy bed. We are once again going this year and are at Allstars (2 rooms). I am thinking teenage boys may be to "old" for a resort that caters to younger aged children. I have a strict budget and was wondering if anyone has advice or a secret way to get a resort where we would not have to get two rooms at a moderate which is way too expensive for us. We always stay at Disney resorts because we use the transportation option so we don't have to drive. Any advice is appreciated!

You should look into rooms at the Doubletree on Hotel Lane, they have two room suites that consist of a bedroom with two beds, a large bathroom, living room with pull out couch dining area and "kitchenette". Also they have adjoining room access should you decide you need more space.

Thanks for this. I will look into this; however we don't like to drive and rather depend on Disney transportation.

I don’t know of any secret ways. I wish!!—we have 17 year old triplets and when we went 2 summers ago we splurged on the Yacht Club, where the day bed will comfortably sleep an adult. I was just thinking if we go back I don’t think I can cram even the smallest one of them on a Murphy bed. ;)

I agree with @cdeev8690 that pop century might be a good choice. the theme is a bit different, maybe a little more grown up. the recently refurbished rooms are great and have queen beds instead of doubles.

another option might be a family suite at art of animation? they can run along the same price as two value/mod rooms but are typically less than a deluxe room and include the kitchenette, so you can save some there by having some breakfast/snack items handy.

Thanks to all the responses, I think I will stay where I am. I have noticed that I have preferred room at Allstar Movies. Refurbished rooms!
Besides, we are not in the rooms all that much.

Have you looked into renting DVC points for a stay? Its not really a secret but you can generally stay onsite in a Deluxe for the same or less as a moderate. We've stayed at Animal Kingdom, Boardwalk, Beach Club for about what POR would cost. Next trip in May is 5 nights at Boardwalk for $1190. No charge for parking and all taxes/fees already included. Be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Not familiar with DVC points. How does this work?

Disney Vacation Club (timeshare) owners can "rent" out their points to others. There are two major sites online that coordinate rentals that I'm aware of, though you can also arrange it privately through a DVC owner if you know one who is willing. I've rented twice through David's DVC Rentals. I believe the cheapest rooms are at Old Key West, Saratoga Springs, and Animal Kingdom Lodge/Kidani Village. David's has a cost calculator online. I'm sure the DVC Rental Store has one as well.

On our last trip in July 2018, we had a two bedroom family suite at All Star Music. It offered more amenities than the two adjoining rooms that we had at All Star Sports on our previous trip. Having the two refrigerators was nice.

Some resorts have bunks, but I think they are all Deluxe, which is hard to find for under $300 anymore. Fort Wilderness cabins is a good idea. What month are you going?

Thats the key phase.."Not in the rooms that much." Great choice to stay. We aren't in the rooms much at all...so it makes no sense to stay anywhere except a value resort. Now, We do go Moderate every now and then...but only if i pull down lots of overtime to cover it.

If you're not in the rooms that much, would you be interested at all in staying at a Disney Springs area resort instead? Maybe not on Disney property, but they have transportation and it would save some money, if that's your biggest concern. (Though I certainly understand and love the appeal of the Disney bubble, but I also really enjoy the resorts.)

Exactly the Doubletree does have transportation though it is shared with the other resorts on Hotel Lane but I did find them to be efficient for our needs since we were in the parks for the majority of the day.
