Just a couple of questions for you more seasoned runners out there:
-The event starts at 7 (according to the schedule), but what time does everyone line up? I'm assuming bus transportation would be provided to the start.
-Any idea on the mix of ages of runners?
-How does the "Stroller Division" work? Are they using the same course but at a different time? I can't really imagine having to weave in between strollers during a 5k, but I can't find any info on the website.
And lastly,
-Any tips for a brand new runner?
Thanks in advance!!!

I have not done the wine and dine 5k, but have done the W&D half. I am an early person. I get to races way to early for my own good. I should up 90 minutes before the gun, but if you are there 45 minutes before you should be fine.

Most races that have strollers start them in the very back. Most of the stroller people are slow, but some of them can (and do) move and work their way through the pack.

Did the Halloween Family 5k (What they called the 5k for the first W&D) as well as the Beauty & The Beast Royal Family 5k (The 5k for the Princess half this year). They do provide bus transportation to the start area, but only from the listed host resorts. If you are not staying at a host resort, you will need to drive yourself to the start area. In comparison to the half and full marathons, you get to sleep in pretty late for the 5ks. For the 5k for the Princess, the buses ran from 5am-6am. They requested that all runners be onsite by 6:15. This gives them enough time to make sure you are there before it starts, and to ensure they can close any roads as needed. (Don't know if there will be road closures for the AK 5k course or not) They do have a dj at the start area trying to keep everyone awake and moving. They also may have characters out and about for photos. They do have posted signs for "pace groups" for the 5k. 7 & under, 7-9, 9-11,11-14 and then walkers/strollers I believe. So all strollers should be at the end of the pack.
Regarding the age mixes, I would say from 10 or so til somewhere in the senior citizen group. I don't recall if there is an age minimum or not, but definitely remember so younger kids taking off at the start really fast, and then dying a few hundred yards in (always happens) and I saw lots of older people/full families walking the whole course as well.

Do you know if they make those with strollers keep an 16-minute mile pace? I'm doing a charity run for this event and a number of our people will have strollers. Some of them are not planning on training but are in pretty good shape, but a 16 minute mile with a stroller can be hard if you're not used to it.

From the Disney website:
The pacing requirement for the Stroller division is the same as the 5K (maintain a pace of 16 minutes per mile or faster). Please make sure that your child is secure in the stroller throughout the race. Please note that participants in the Stroller division will receive two medallions and one t-shirt for the 5K.

This will be my 1st 5K, also:lookaroun. Appreciate the info....

Just curious if those who have run a Disney 5K would recommend it as a first 5K? Seems to be (from what I've read) low key yet well run.

Thanks,

Wally

The Disney 5k's are extremely low key. No official times, plenty of walkers and non competitive runners. My major beefs with them are the costs (I can do local half marathons for what they charge for a 5k) and the amount of time you need to dedicate to the race. You get to sleep in significantly later than if you do one of the 1/2s or fulls, but once again, a bit earlier than most local races. But overall, plenty of friendly faces, and lots of people out to just have a good time.

Excellent...great to hear. I am hoping this is the first of many 5K's....was hoping to "ease in" low key and with PLENTY of distractions.

Thanks.

Yes! Take it easy and have fun! I did the Halloween and was sad when it was over. Now for the January Half, I had a blast, but I was glad it was over!

Well that's an honest answer! I see everyone saying after a 5K that they want to do the 1/2 next....but it seems like SO much to me. Glad you got thru it (congrats)...and thanks for the honest opinion.
