Face on Sse

Based on the fact that all the attractions/screens/simulators that are "easily updated" --- like Star Tours, Body Wars, HISTA, Circlevision 360s --- are updated maybe once every 20 years...or closed completely. I also wouldn't hold my breath on a new Soarin' film for this reason. Disney isn't willing to spend money to update the "easily updated" attractions. The screens at the end of SSE, included. Simple as that.

You are basing that "fact" purely on assumption. There is no specific trend that Disney must follow, nor is there any constitution dictating that the attractions we see here today (in any form) will be left like that for two decades before being updated. Spaceship Earth will continue to receive minor upgrades long after February has passed. MILF as well. For the so-called "easily updated," it isn't as easy as you seem to believe. Look at O, Canada's remake as a perfect example. The amount of money, time, delays and work that went into refreshing the over-20 year old film hardly easy. I recommend further research be done before any more generalizations on the subjective ideals of what is easy and what is not are released. But that is just me... :lookaroun

SSE Today: Three times, no picture usage today, in anybody's videos at all.
:(

FYI: Ride was said to close today at 5:45. Don't know if that's just for today, or regular now.

Super-crowded, Update and End-of-year recap and awards threads coming after Christmas day, before New Years Eve!

And do you not think that Disney has rarely updated these attractions that are supposedly easy to update?

What about Star Tours? Body Wars? Soarin' at DCA? All the 3D movies? How long until we have a new mission at Mission: Space? 15 years? 20 years?

No kidding there's no trend that Disney has to follow. I'm basing my prediction on Disney's past behavior. But the money, time, delays, and work that went into updating O, Canada?? Are you kidding me? What cost? Hiring a D-list comedian? Filming five minutes of new footage? Whatever. There's no reason why this update was 20 years in the making.

Sorry, couldn't help it.

Did somebody say Celebrity Deathmatch!?!?!?!? :D

Rode SSE twice Saturday night - First time picture worked, second time nada.

The picture does at least provide some distraction on the descent. Im sure opinions are going to vary on this from now until the end of time. As for myself, I quote Chief Joseph from American Adventure: "From where the sun now stands, I will post opinion on SSE no more. Forever..."

I think that is how I remember it anyway.

The paper mentioned something about the "Merf Roll"....at first I thought why would Merf have sushi named after him but the article continued and cleared things up stating that it was the newest surfing move.

Also - my black and green jumpsuit was nice. It's a little tight and the gloves are a bit much on the hotter days but, hey, it does keep the sand out.

Computer animation and 2D/3D films are two (actually three) totally separate things. It's apples and oranges.

Plus, it also depends upon the sponsor. Some are more willing to keep their corporate name in a positive light, where as a country sponsored film may not be as concerned about the PR aspect of the re-rideability* factor.

I don't think any of these attractions are as "easy to update" as you imagine them to be.

All the attractions you name above have a lot more to them than just a Flash cartoon. Their videos have effects and footage that take time and money to produce, and their vehicles have to be programmed just right to match the footage with the appropriate movements. It sounds easier than it is. And while I agree that they could be updated more often than they are, there's still a huge difference between that and simply changing out a cartoon in SSE.

Because Disney is always updating rides that just recieved a refurb.

"Easy to update" is a relative term. It's easier to update 'O, Canada' than, say, rebuilding the track for Space Mountain. Point is, Disney does not update these so-called easily updated attractions. And if they update SSE's screens in the next five years I'll eat my words. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'm sorry, but I'm not a big fan of the face in a cartoon thing. While putting your face in the video does make the end more interesting and entertaining, I still feel its not the kind of ending SSE deserves.

Oh calm down and quit having a temper tantrum. After seeing MILF's progress this year I'm sure SSE's ending will improve just as MILF did. We are in a new era for Disney now, and just because thats the way things were done back then doesn't mean it will still happen today. Though I wouldn't call this the greatest thing to happen to a Disney classic, I think its better than Imagination's last "refurb". Give it time and you'll see.

No tantrum here, doc. And quality shouldn't be exclusive to any Disney era; it should be synonymous with anything Disney produces, and in the last decade, I don't think that's the case.
