Face meet and greet characters

Now I'm all for a good meet and greet but one thing that always kinda bothers me is when characters that should be people are reduced to "fur". For example captain hook should by all means be a face character and I didn't know it but he is in the dream along with mickey parade, and looks very much like his character as does smee. Which raises the question why aren't these two face characters all the time? While I like fur characters the level of interaction with a face character is just way higher and overall makes for a better experience. Now here is my second question, I have seen videos where disneyland is at capacity and face characters such as alice, and hatter still walk around entertaining guests and they are not "mobbed" as many people say they would be if they did that here with our higher capacity level of guests . So is it because of our higher rate of international guests that we don't do the same thing? Well regardless here is the video for captain hook and smee skip to about 10:37

I like how Smee looks in the Dream Along with Mickey show but I don't like Hook. I've never had a problem with "fur" characters either

Being a grown adult without kids who still likes to meet the characters (I know I'm not the only one...) I kind of prefer the full costume characters as opposed to "face" characters. I feel like it's easier to get lost in the magic rather than being reminded that it is someone's job and they are probably judging me and wondering why a grown adult and his wife have just waited in line for 30 minutes to get their picture with some random employees dressed liked Flynn Rider and Rapunzel.

I had always assumed that with characters like that, they do them as fur characters because they have such exaggerated features, it's easier to make them immediately recognizable and the look is more consistent. Both Hook & Smee have quite a bit of makeup on in that video to make them look as they do which looks fine when they are on stage but might be a bit off-putting up close when you're actually having a one-on-one with them. Very different from the type and amount of makeup you see on the princesses and other face characters. Speculation on my part, but that's my guess...

I personally think it's creepy when fur characters are turned into face characters. Like Hook and Smee in the video and in DL Paris they have the Genie as a face character. I don't like it when the costumes are switched up and I think if a character is a fur or face character originally, it should stay that way.
Im still not used to the Mad Hatter or Fairy Godmother as face(who is still fur in Tokyo btw)

Wellithink if the character is ahuman rhey shouldnt really be a fur character. Everyone loves hatter and cruella devilla who has quit of bit make up so do the tremaines I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they are ussually seen as fur so its just more familiar to keep it that way. I love fur characters dont get me wrong I just think the interaction is higher with a face character! Its why ginger snap alice and spieling peter are so great they look and really make you feel like your with that character.

Personally, I prefer characters like Captain Hook & Smee as "fur" characters. I think their respective head pieces look more like the characters they're portraying than any face character make up and add ons can really accomplish. As for Fairy Godmother and Hatter in Tokyo Disney, I thought that was done b/c the bulk of the cast members would be of Japanese backgrounds and not look enough like the characters to make face characters like these possible in that park. Sorry, but I find her pretty terrifying...

Speaking of which, I recall once seeing the three good fairies from Sleeping Beauty as fur characters at one time in a video or photo but I did see a video where they were face characters on YouTube in Disneyland in CA and I preferred the face ones nevertheless. It seems like there's not too many villains out there that are face characters. Other than Maleficent, the Tremaines, the Evil Queen from Snow White, Gaston and Cruella de Vil, the rest of the villains are fur. (Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong. Just do it politely!) I can't really think of any reasons why but I do agree that there probably are certain features of that character that no matter how much makeup or add-ons you add, it doesn't replicate the characters very well. I can only dream of having Quasimodo as a face character meeting and greeting guests in a Disney park one day but he has too many features that would be hard to replicate on a human being hence why he's a fur from all the photos and videos I've seen.

Dr. Faciler is a face character isn't he? And I have seen the 3 fairies as both face and "fur" and I think they look fine either way.
