In my opinion, these "encourage" pirating. Think about it, if someone gave you a picture that you want to keep and said that it would fade away in 48 hours, what would you do with it? Scan in, of course.
I think that the people that are already scanning this stuff will do so wether it is on this format or not.

I believe the recycling was part of the originally announced plan. It was like "bring 5 expired discs back for recycling and get one for free" or soemthing like that.

But I agree with the previous poster... they really need to get to the price point of $2-$4 before these'll sell.

Forget that! Why not go with Netflix? That is where I rent all of my DVD's from now. I can rent as many DVD's a month that I want for $20. I can even return them when I want...NO LATE FEES!!! Beats standing in the ever growing line at Blockbuster. At my rental rate, I am only paying $1.79 per DVD that I "rent".

Another reason that ripping it may not be worth it is that it's not likely to come with the special features and cover art/disc art, etc. that collectors like.
