"Extreme" Epcot

Hey now, Spaceship Earth isn't dated..(the show elements, the ride system is a bit creeky..)

One thing I'd like to mention, Test Track and Mission Space /are/ cutting edge futuristic attractions, Spaceship earth is older technology..Which looks more futuristic? Which is dressed inside a giant, silver geometric shape? Which houses millions of brightly colored special effects, laser-like beams, minatures of futuristic cities teaming with activity and the promise of a better tommorow?

What I'm trying to say here is that Spaceship earth uses alot of OLD stuff, (neon lights, projectors, etc..) Yet it PRESENTS a more futuristic feel to it...It doesn't have to be -new- technology, it just has to look futuristic for it to work, thats what They realized with the new tommorowland, albeit they went above and beyond the rational, but that's good for the magic kingdom, Epcot can be dressed up the same way, and people will automatically feel like they are in the future just by the way the it is presented to them.

I hope that makes sense....

yes! That made sence. It would be great if Disney could somehow make eveything as amazing as Spaceship Earth architectually. I am not saying that the buildings don't all look awesome, because they do. If Spaceship Earth were built today, I bet it would look very similar in design, and it would still be awesome. But if some of the pavillions were made today, although they do all still look awesome, I would bet they would look comepletely different. Epcot originally had a sort of "stealth" look to it. Actually, it kinda reminds me of how all the old computers had that same, dull off-white color to them. That was kinda the look of the future in the 80s. The way some of the pavillions like Living Seas, or Imagination were made, I think you can kinda see that. But thats a bit simpler to fix. They just put more up to date paint jobs on them, and they still look awesome. That was sorta like how they updated Tomorrowland. Fixing up the buildings with new paint jobs and structures. Yes, I think they could do that to Epcot, but not as "Buck Rodgers/comic book" as Tomorrowland is. It would have to be a bit more serious, but still appealing and cool.

They're already starting to do that!
Imagiation recently got it's self a new paint job
Test Track is shiney and metallic
Mission Space replaced the most -dated- looking building (I'm not insulting the ride, just the building, big and grey, yeck.)
And they've added all those little colorful windmills on the signs, along with that big purple angular covering around the info Kiosk..

Everything in EPCOT has -ALWAYS- been about geometric shapes, all the designs of the buildings are all basic shapes, just dressed up..

They do, however, need to have the return of the old icons!

Retro Chic

One of my all time favorites around Epcot has been the "graphic design" in Epcot, that futuristic look. that universal aproach to signs so anyone in any language could understand it. that should be one of the things that Epcot should bring back... That flare.

The storylines behind some of the old rides and exibits can be put up to date without much complications after all. Imagine a "Land" that we know but a new walk up portions with newer technology Robotics, new design and use a new design on the old out dated boats.

Imagine retrofitting the old doomboogies used in SpaceShip Earth with LCD and computers via bateries and cordless browsing so people can actually get mor info on some of the cues, and when the ride has to stop for some reason, people can have games and even communicate with other parts of their party on the same ride (hey even meet people in the ride)

How about at the Living Seas since has to be with our oceans, add some info in Tropical Storms, Tsunamis, "El niño" and all that info about our weather on all that wasted space around.... It can be still call Sea Base Alpha but a new twist and a new story to it. Not just a water expedition to the bottom of the ocean to study sea life but to study the weather also.... hey even include a "Hurricane" sim

Universe Of Energy should have a rehab, to remove Ellen from it, and just (and i am just saying just) build a new look for the ride. Plus a new show for the First cue... Also have more interactivity in the ride (again the LCD's) plus a new 3D movie at the spinning theather...

Innoventions... what to to with it?

Eh, weather and the ocean are two huge topics that are very connected, yet to large for both to fit in one pavillion..The possibilities for the Living Seas was only partially tapped, a dark ride, like what was originally planned, would be so much more fitting..Give Weather it's own pavillion
(Earth, Water, Air..Now all we need is 'fire' and 'heart' and we've got ourselves a green-mullet wearin' earth savin' super hero..)

Check out NowInc's "Sneak Preview" thread in Imagineering. His attraction idea sounds like it would be perfect here!

$300,000,000 rehab

that would be so romantic that Epcot did get that money for a rehab. The park deserve it, Also on that matter... Why not get the Innoventions East and bring an exibit about the history of Epcot Center. i remember last time i was over Disneyland in the line for Rocket Rods they use as decor some blow up desing and some parts of old rides, even a piece of and old Monorail. Why not use that for decor and bring back the nostalgia of Epcot for the new generation to know and learn about one of the greatest park build in the USA.

Definetly it is time to live up the Dream of a New Epcot Center!!!

I have to admit I love that previously stated idea about LCD screens in Spaceship Earth. Especially the idea of communicating between cars in the pavillion dedicated to communication. The only problem with this idea is that fact that it would be expensive as anything to have these things installed in all of the cars. How many cars are in this ride? The downtime in order for this thing would be emense... although it might be worth it. Might is the key word though. The fact that it is there will either make people ignore the ride or ignore it. It's not exactly a totally used thing unless the ride stops (which actually happens a lot on Spaceship Earth).
