That, and also so they can do the effect of the alien pressing down on your harness as he "sniffs you".

I think Alien Encounter is lots of fun. I crack up every time, and I think thats what they were going for. If you get scared easily, just keep telling yourself "This is Disney, nothing bad will happen!"

Truthfully, I find AE to be just about the only attraction in all of WDW that I don't like. It's not particularily scary - get a grip, folks, you're at Disney, not on Mars! - but it IS mean-spirited. I didn't think that poor fried creature's fate was the slightest bit amusing (and neither did my kids).

Okay, I've never been on AE before, but from reading the CM SOP (standard operating procedures, a 'how to use this attraction without killing people in the process' guide) study guide, I think it will be an "easy ride" for me when i actually do get a chance to sieze the future with XS Tech...btw, the SOP is pretty interesting...its got the required speils, load/turnstiles console diagrams, even the defective seat log sheets! BTW, only 14 chairs are allowed to go out without declaring a "101" or breakdown. The people on the catwalk above you are REAL, and there's a script in there for them. Although I haven't been on the attraction, i think that there is a point when the guy on the catwalk shows you what he's seeing on the monitors in night vision. To my knowledge, its true. There IS a camera on his helmet, and if you listen closely, when he asks if everyone is all right, you can hear a pumped-in "Yea, we're screaming just for the fun of it". There is a special "TESLA COIL: ON" up on the catwalk also, apparantly used before strobe lights go off...once again, i haven't been on AE, so I can't really tell you about it :(

granted it's a little sick how they fry Skippy...XS Tech is not exactly an ideal organization...I'm sure Skippy is not the only animal they fried in testing their teleportation machine! Also, I was not saying there is literally an alien flying around the room, stepping on your shoulders and sniffing/licking you...I was saying there IS an Audio-Animatronic alien in this attraction and he's nasty looking! But...this attraction is supposed to be nasty (e.g. the maintenance guy gets eaten alive and blood squirts on guests). It'd be fun to be an Imagineer...you have a nightmare (or, of course, a good dream) and can build something that'll make millions of people live it out...they must get a kick out of the screams on this attraction!

I love AE!!!

I first saw it Christmas 95, I was 13, I waited about an hour for it. It was totally worth the wait!

I still love going on it, it's not a stupid attraction, I still love it!

It is a great attraction, a great idea, a great overall experience.

Guess again, junior. It's a lame, waste-of-time attraction, a good idea with a lousy result, and the overall kind of experience that should be avoided in order to head to the actually good attractions. Alien Encounter stinks.

Is there an age/height restriction?

How's about a 6 years old, 44ins tall.

He says he wants to go on this one and I feel he's up for it, having been on it myself.

I was really disappointed in AE. I had this big build-up in my mind, had heard stores of grown men almost in tears, love a good horror film----and the only emotion I felt was waiting for it to be over so I could go to something else. In subsequent trips, I have not gone back to AE, but may do it this year if my wife wants to. She has not seen it and she mentioned she may go on it this year. If so, I'll go with her, if not, I'll go over to ride Buzz!
