I was just wondering how scary this attraction really is? Just wanna know if I should try to convinve a friend to go on it with me. She's not a fan of really scary stuff. But is it worth my waiting in line?

The attraction is kind of like a live 3D movie. It is mostly Dark in there and the effects are spooky, but nothing awful. Truthfully I think that It's Tough to be a Bug is worse.

Well it's actually nothing like a 3D movie.

I's an experience that basically utilizes all your senses to scare the life out of you.

ALOT of it is in the dark and is VERY loud. I don't think you should miss it. It's a really fun attraction and besides being scary it's very funny.

In all honesty, there is absolutely NO scare factor to this attraction. I had heard some good things about it prior to my checking it out, and I quickly found out that all I had been told was wrong. This is a very lame attraction, to put it mildly, one that really isn't worth the wait in line. The 'alien' is a poor excuse for animatronics, and unless you find puffs of air on your neck or a quick squirt of water on you to be scary, you should just pass this attraction up.

It can be scary the first time, but it's really not that bad.

The scariest effect involves an alien tongue and your head, (I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned this one yet) but I won't spoil the details for you. It's something that you'll have to experience for yourself.

Okay, here is my opinion:
I am a fraidy cat in every sense of the word. Everything scares me. A lot. This attraction (it is not a ride!) was petrifying for me. Yes, it is just some special effects (air and water, etc.) and audioanimatronics. No real aliens are in this attraction. But, it is all about the phycological freaking you out aspect. If you are of the mindset that gets scared easily, this will scare you. If you are not easily freightened, and keep thinking it is just some effects, you will probably not be scared, or even be annoyed at how fake it is like SilentRascal.
Another aspect to consider is this:
I was conned, cajoled, harrased, teased and peer pressured into going to this attraction. Was I scared? You bet! Did I enjoy it? Not one bit! Did it make me love the people who made me do it more? Nope, actually I don't trust them anymore nor will I let them con me again. Actually I may not even go back to the parks with them, because not being respectful or sensitive to someone's fear is mean and doesn't make them good friends.

the enjoyment factor of this attraction really depends on where you sit. It seems like the tongue effect works on about half of the chairs...the breathing works on most of them as does the squirting blood...but the shoulder harnasses need to be fixed...they drop down when the alien steps on you but don't go back up! So there I am trying to push the stupid thing back! Kinda irritating...but I still visited Alien Encounter twice during my last visit...I do agree that It's Tough to be a Bug! is better/scarier, however. Someone said there's no alien...actually there is...and he's nasty looking! I personally think he's kewl, however...I just don't think there are enough effects to this attraction. If someone is moderately easily scared...get them on this ride...it'll be hilarious for you!

Yeah, if you're easily scared like me, I'm talking really easily scared, you've never seen Scream and never want to easily scared, then you can "cheat the system" like me, just to get thru your first experience, cause once you get thru the first one, the rest is a piece of cake and you can have fun thinking there's an alien hovering above you.

Here's the trick, how does the shoulder harness know you're not actually as tall as you are holding up the harness when it locks into place? Well, it doesn't. ( I know this is really lame and stupid) but you can just hold it up until it locks and then when scary stuff happens, just lean forward a wee bit.

You'll still have the begeezes scared out of you, but it won't be as bad as it might have been. Then you can go back multiple times and experience the ride in it's true glory!

Wow, I am really pathetic.

If you are not afraid of it, you will ironically laugh from the other people who get really scared and scream. It's all a product of your imagination, the alien is never there.

I never found it all that scarey - thsi is just me, I'm sure, but everything felt predicatble....

IMO -the best parts are the XS Tech presentation and piped in 'audience' one-liners 'Here, eat this kid next to me!'

Contrary to what SilentRascal says, I think it is a great attraction and not to be missed. By the way SilentRascal, my sister in law just graduated from Catawba College in Salisbury, didn't know if you went there or not.

I hated this attraction. i thought it was frightening, and I didn't like being restrained. I'm surprised almost no one has mentioned that part. If your friend is in any way claustrophobic, DO NOT take her on the ride! Your head and shoulders are restrained so that all the effects can happen to you. I found the whole thing really unpleasant, not funny.

the only reason you are restrained is so that you dont get up and go running around screaming! (some people probably would!):)
