Extra Magic Hour(s) question

Looks like my family and I will be able to squeeze a visit to WDW in the first week of June this year! We will be staying at the Coronado Springs unless I can get my discount code to work at POR. Anyway, I have a question about getting a wristband for the evening Extra Magic Hours. I will be attending a conference until roughly 5 or 6 pm each weekday and so I won't make it into the parks until 6 pm or so. In order to make my park admission worth the price, I had planned on attending the evening EMHs. My family will pick their wristbands up in the morning but will I still be able to get a wristband in the evening so that I can stay late? Do they "run out" of wristbands? I saw on Deb's site that you need to pick up a wristband at least 2 hours before park closing. Anyone have an practical experience with this? Thanks.

Hi Dave I attended EMH on Wednesday & Thursday of last week at MK and MGM. We got to MK after park closing time. We were required to show resort ID and have a pass to the parks but we were able to get in and get a wristband with no issue. The MGM Night I was in the park and got one about 15 minutes after the park had closed ( I was still inside the park though) and again had no issue getting a wristband with proper resort ID. Hope this helps!! Belle

I don't have any practical experience yet...but I would think that as long as you are a guest of a WDW resort, you could get into the EMH park. There also shouldn't be a problem of "running out" of wristbands since it's not like E-ride night where there was only a set number of tickets sold, I think it's more or less of a situation where whoever shows up gets in. That's my understanding of the whole deal.

The wristbands are not issued until 2 hours before the offical park closing. The number of wristbands is not limited, and all Disney resort guest can take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours with admission to the park.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

Thanks for the info everyone!

I was just worried that I'd only be able to visit the parks for 3 or 4 hours while there in June. The EMH evenings should really help me get some more value for my ticket cost.

Thanks again.

If your family has park hopping option on their tickets I suggest that they go to a different park during the day and then head over to the EMH park with you in the eveing. Many people don't get park hoppers any more and it really is more busy. Also since you are going in June I am guessing the park hours should be pretty good (not like when we were there in Feb / early March.)

We got to MK at 6:30 and it closed at 7:00. We no problems at all getting wrist bands then (in the rose garden near the castle). Hubby and friend went to MGM for the last hour of EMH and got one with no problem.

The 1st week of June is also Gay Days week (I belive) I have heard you should avoid MK on the offical gay day, but all the rest is not that busy.

Someone else might have more authority on this then me, I have never been there in June.

This was true in 2002 when I went in June. On the day MK was busy, but we went over to epcot and a lot less people were there. Also, the rest of the days we were there were not that busy

I was wondering how they handle the wristband distribution. I am concerned that people could "loan" out their resort id's to friends that aren't staying on site so they can enjoy the hours as well. Do they scan your resort id or something to make sure this does not happen? Just wondering how it all works.

Up to 3 hours

Does anyone know what the words "up to 3 hours" mean at the evening extra magic hours? Does it mean 3 hours during times like now (Easter week)? And only one hour other times. I hate seeing worm-y words like "up to"

It means they are not locked into it if they don't want to (special days and events etc...) Most of the time it is the full 3 hours. In Feb during presidents week MK was open until 12:00 am and EMH were until 3:00 am on Wednesday night.

no...but you only need one resort ID per family...we expierenced this last week when brad had his ID out much faster than I was able to get mine out but they gave me a wrist band on his room anyway.

hmm...maybe i shouldnt have posted that??
