Expiring tickets

I purchased park tickets (2-day, 1 park per day) for a trip in Spring 2020. When the parks closed due to COVID-19, the tickets were assigned a 09/26/2021 expiration date. My question is if I am unable to go before then, am I out the cost of the park tickets? The WDW website is not 100% clear, but I found something that seems to suggest that the value of an expired park ticket or tickets can be applied towards the purchase of future tickets or equal or greater value. So, as long as I purchase another 2-day or additional days, I can apply the cost of the original tickets as credit towards the new tickets for a future trip after 09/26?

Call the ticketing line. They can change the date of your tickets. You’ll need to pay the difference if the new dates cost more than your ticket is worth. We had to do this for some tickets that we’re intended for July 2020 but are now being used in October 2021. I’m pretty sure my sisters were told that it’s easier to do before the ticket expires. So I would call before that September date.

First I would contact Disney to ask if they can extend the expiration date as you being unable to use them is a direct result of Covid.

But yes otherwise you can use the value of the expired tickets towards new tickets. You just pay the difference if there is any.

I just had a similar situation -- 2 5-day Park Hoppers from May 2020, with a new vacation set for May 2022. I spoke to 4 Cast Members over 2 phone calls and 2 callbacks, with an email in between. All signs were pointing to me having to pay the difference between the 2020 and 2022 prices, as I was told the 9/26/21 date was Disney's final extension date. Then the last Cast Member saw that the tickets were purchased from a third party and I told her yes, they were from Undercover Tourist. She put me on hold for a few minutes, came back, and said she would be able to change the dates at no additional charge (not extend the date past 9/26/21....actually change the use window to 8 days in May 2020). So evidently, there are a small number of exceptions that can be made.
