How about the complaints that you can see the steel beams when you're going backwards inside the show building? I'd heard that people were hoping they'd fix that because it ruins the illusion.

First time, I saw nothing "behind the scenes"
Second time, I looked down, and saw the "inner part"
This last time when I was going back to the illusion you could see outside, I don't remember being able to see it before. All 3 times I was in the middle-ish of the train.

Out of curiosity, what's different about it in person that makes it more acceptable?

Basically, its different because its in a more effective setting. When I saw it on video (after riding it), it looks like it could be a relatively small projection on a screen in a dark room. In reality, you stop in this huge cave with fog and lighting effects and a relatively massive lite up region on the side wall of the cave that appears to be light from a tunnel up and behind the train. Then the projection continues with the Yeti as seen on the video and the train shakes a bit (actually I think its just well timed so the Yeti jumps on the track as the train latches into position during the track switch creating a jerking/shaking effect). It looks more like a real shadow than it does on the videos online. I admit its not an overly impressive effect, but in comparison to an online video, it much more impressive and effective in person. It more than acceptable imo.

The video quality really doesn't do it justice, it looks a lot more like a shadow in person vs. a projection.

This is one thing I will agree with you on, and really the only one of the two major flaws I see with this ride, the other being the shortness of the queue.

Well I must admit, your description does make it sound more intriguing than what's been seen on the videos. No one else has gone into that kind of description of it from what I've read. Thanks!

I'm still kind of skeptical, though, regarding the relative speed at which the creature appears to move on the video. It appears very unnatural for a creature of that size. Unless the AA also moves with the same degree of fluidity and agility, I'm thinking it will be hard for me to suspend my disbelief. That's what I mean when I refer to it as "cartoonish".

I guess I'll see for myself in ONE WEEK!! Woo hoo!!!

The Yeti in question is meant to have evolved from a species of Monkeys that inhabit the lower regions of the mountains, there-fore I imagine it would be pretty nimble for it's size. Plus pretty much all creatures are adept at movement for there size as they become accustomed to it, have you ever seen how fast a massive Gorilla or a Grizzly Bear can move when angered ?

No problem. Enjoy your first ride on Everest. I think you'll be impressed. The ride is much more impressive in person than on any video I've seen. No video can capture how much there is to see. No video has been able to capture the lift hill or Yeti AA scene very well imo.

I'd recommend sitting near the last half of the train on at least one ride to fully appreciate the cave with the Yeti projection. Sitting in the very front, you don't get that same experience since most of the cave the train stops in is behind you (think how long those trains are). I don't know whether you'll appreciate the shadow effect or not, but I think you'll see its at least better than what you've seen on online videos...at least I think so.

So I guess that also means no plans to shut it down and make some tweaks then? Basically we're stuck with no snow effects and that ridiculously silly cartoon that is supposed to pass for a "shadow of the Yeti tearing up the tracks"?

If it makes you feel any better just remember that it is the last attraction that old disney management laid its dirty hands on.

Hey, I believe it was Peter who was talking about how he thought they may be trying to extend Everest's queue...has that gone anywhere? How is it holding up with the crowds? Is it overflowing?

Thats what a few of us first suspected/hoped for when we saw those walls go up next to Fastpass Distribution, but I remember hearing someone a few days ago(possibly Steve?) confirm it was going to be a permanent food cart like the ice cream truck near Kali.

As far as holding up crowds goes--- It does a pretty good job for a regular day with the wait time saying up to about 50 minutes. Anything past there the line is definitely out through the fastpass machines and towards the restrooms. It works pretty well for the time being, but come spring break (or any other large) crowds, they'll have to pull out the ropes again. I really hope they do something to solve this issue in the near future.

Can any normal person ride it during the previews or do you need a pass? What difference does a preview have from the grand opening and when did the normal previews start(not counting AP/DVC members)?

I believe they started about a week or two after the AP/DVC previews ended. It's open to all guests, and should be until the "Official" opening.

Any park guest can ride Everest during times in which the attraction is operating. Just head towards the attraction and if its running, hop aboard and enjoy your excursion through the forbidden mountain. Soft openings or previews allow for Disney to close the attraction at any time they feel necessary to modify show elements or just general upkeep. The attraction is still not listed on any park map for Animal Kingdom and will not be until its official opening on April 7. The attraction started soft openings on February 2.

BTW, I finally rode the attraction tonight when the yeti was in his "B" show. Definitely not as good as the normal version but still good, nonetheless.

Yeah, I rode Everest yesterday afternoon and the Yeti was not working. That brings my count to 15 "A" rides and 3 "B" rides.

When we were there earlier in February, a lot of people were not riding because they assumed it wasn't open for "everybody" but just testing for "special guests". I tried to casually tell a few people that I overheard making comments like that that it was available to all guests, one group flat out told me I didn't know what I was talking about [I'd already ridden five times that morning ] the second group looked at me like I had horns growing from my head... I gave up, all the more rides for us! [by the end of our week we'd been 18 times :sohappy:]

To answer your question... Absolutely! Anyone in the park can ride.

EDIT: Just saw Peter's answer... Our count was 10 "B" and 8 "A"

i can understand the guest thinking its only for special partys when we went two weeks ago there were a lot of cms standind around outside the e.e area which kind of put you off...you felt like you shouldnt have been there, like you were intruding!
but we went on any way we just walked like we knew what we were doing! altho we dint and got on! twice..in a row.. fantastic!
although fast pass wasnt working then as it was a preview day...great ride altho i wish there was a queue as liked to have stopped to see the deatil on the queue area
