Expedition Everest / Yeti Question

So I was perusing the IOA Central boards when I came across a few posts that conflicted with my knowledge of EE's Yeti. What I had heard was that the Yeti would be a 50ft animatronic; yet what I read at IOA Central is a bit different. Here's a couple of the posts:

"By the way, the Yeti animatronic will only be around 17 feet tall. Everest is opening in 2006, rumored to be around April of that year I believe."

"17 FT. Not 50 FT. 33 FT off from the actual height. WDI knows what they are doing. A 50 FT Yeti would make it seem unrealistic for it's background."

"Exactly. If it was 50 feet tall, WDI would need a crane just to work on it. It also wouldn't be able to do much as it is rumored to do. Many sources have claimed that the Yeti will be only 17 feet tall. The sayings about a 50-foot tall Yeti were all rumors."

The latter two statements make a lot of sense, and I'm inclined to believe they're right; a 50 ft yeti does seem excessive. So WDW Magic members, what's the straight dope?

The animatronic definately isnt 50ft tall! That much is certain. Something in the region of 15ft seems far more probable.

LOL something I dont understand, why is everyone so interested in the size of the Yeti??? I would just like to see some great realistic animatronics, in scale with the surroundings! A figure doesnt need to be HUGE to be well executed.

Because quite simply, a 50ft animatronic would be amazing by any stretch of the imagination (regardless of the implausibilitys). I never fully believed that statement as I realized it would be an engineering nightmare, but I’d be lying if I said I’m not slightly disappointed that it will be significantly shorter than the rumored height.

Just because the Yeti won't actually be 50 ft tall doesn't mean that WDI can't make it seem that way. WDI loves to use forced perspective to make things seem bigger or smaller than they really are.

Like Steve said...and other insiders have said this too....the Yeti will be 15 to 17 ft...definately nowhere around 50 ft tall; IMHO 50ft would not look real at all, and hinder the whole illusion that you are being chased by a Yeti...

I'm more interested by the snow effect rumored? Anyone know more about it and other effects inside?

That may be so, but a 50ft animatronic would be pretty sweet, regardless of the theme.

The Yeti will probably be similar in size to that of the one in the Matterhorn at Disneyland.

IMO 17 ft is huge for an animatronic. The "real" Yeti or Bigfoot is supposed to be around 7 ft tall. If you saw a 7 foot tall animatronic, you would be terrified. Now 17 feet is about 2.5 times larger than "the real thing." Would you rather think that 5-story tall unrealistic and malfunctioning hairy thing is coming at you? Imagine almost a 2-story house coming out at a roller coaster. It still doesn't sound reasonable but WDI will find a way. How ever it turns out, I can assure you it will be an amazing ride.

Well it can't be too small..or not everyone on the "train" would be able to see it.

Either you're mistaken or you and I have differing definitions of the word “arguing”. My exact quote was “From what I hear, the animatronic will be 50ft tall…”. I was not certain of the fact, hence my prefacing it with the aforementioned bolded portion. As one who's very self-conscious in regards to having his facts straight, I set out on obtaining the straight dope. Upon doing so, I followed up my IOA post with a statement acknowledging my misinformation. Either way, the Yeti’s height is apparently irrelevant; I’m curious as to why you even brought this up?
